So 17 years ago I ordered the windshield trim clips. There was only one option for replacements. Jump forward to today. Im now trying to install the trim moulding on my 69 Camaro convertible and discover the trim moulding is too recessed when fastened into the clips. After research I discover the convertibles use a different clip. The clip they use is about 1/8" taller. The red clip in the picture is the correct clip for a convertible. Now that the glass is in installing them is a major PIA. I am struggling with every one and I am having to be creative on every one.. Hope this info helps someone else avoid this problem.

I feel your pain. Never knew that thte clips are different from coupes to verts. When I get ready to install my glass I will heed your advice and ensure the clips are all installed prior to putting the glass in. I think the rubber seal channels need installed before the glass too because the clips look as if they go on top.

Brother it was a nightmare, LOL. Here is what I did. So the original holes were still there so I took a dremel and cut off wheel and carefully cut off each stud that interfered with the original clips position. For each clip I re-drilled the original hole at a slight upward angle so the screw could be tightened down at just enough angle to avoid cracking the glass.

I think the header molding had dum dum stuffed in the corners

Thank you I wondered about that. Its hard for me to believe they would have not put something in there to seal that.. You know what is shocking is how little restoration instructions and information there is available on all the trim moldings..

Sauron my 67 header (2 pieces) were chromed. I have 2 sets. One from my car and one I bought at a city swap meet

Be careful with the CHQ reproduction part. CHQ started off making the molding by chroming the entire metal piece and then painted the top part a dull silver color. The slick chrome does not provide any mechanical adhesion for the top layer of paint. So, it can chip off easily.

I sanded the top part to scratch the chrome and then repainted the piece. Don't repeat my mistakes.

Im not trying to sell CHQ products, just saying thats the one that worked for me and was coated just like the factory ones on this car. Im trying to post pics of the original factory moldings that came off this car but I cant seem to do it. Every time I try they don't upload they dont even try to upload so not sure what is happening. In the pictures the chrome finish under the paint does not look paint prepped and the under side of the molding looks chromed. If I can fig out how to post the pics I will get them on here.. The OER/ Dynacorn or who ever made them ones were completely painted and when installed the over lap ends were short about 3/4" so the long slot on the bottom one was exposed which is weird and made me wonder what that was all about and if it was just something about this car. The CHQ holes wasn't a perfect line up but close enough that I didn't have to drill any and when the screws seated everything was fine. Hey I think I got them to go...

The header was chrome plated then satin finish on top. I have restored/owned 7 first gen convertibles, 1 firebird and 6 Camaros. The Firebird was chrome, the Camaros were satin finished. These were in the 90's and were original as far as I remember. Frank S, from the original Camaro club verified this when my 69 pace car was judged in 1990 at the Camaro Nationals. Rick George owns CHQ and is stickler on his parts, former owner of Rick's Camaro. The satin finish held up on all these cars and I don't know how or what it was that was applied. Even when I replaced my current 69 in 1984, the old and new GM were satin silver over chrome, the original had some rust so I just got the new OEM at the Chevy parts counter for less than $40 back then. Pic only shows the corner and it has a bit of rust after 40 years! Was our 2nd car for many years and I still drive it wkly rain or shine, I am the second owner.
