I just got done installing a full set of rockers on a roach 69, and have a question regarding the front section under the lower hinge area. Is there any way to put the entire rocker in without having to trim it. I see no way of removing the spot welds that seem to be under the existing panel ???? It seems to be sandwitched between a few panels under there and short of removing the outer hinge panel how would/do you do it ???? I just trimmed a few inches off the front of the rocker but technically thats not the right thing to do. Its hard to explain but if you have ever put a full rocker in you will know what I'm talking about. I know the car is a turd but I cant stop feeling like a butcher :D

Here are a couple of crappy pics so you can see what I'm talking about.

Thanks......

I guess that answers my question if on my 67 vert if I can leave the sub-frame in and replace the inner rocker panel. I'm replacing them one at a time along with the floor. Plan was to remove and replace one side, then replace partial floor pans with out pulling subframe.
Thanks for the photos. It as other gave stated, the more rust I remove the more I find...

I'm doing the same thing on my '68 Coupe. I don't know what shape yours are in but it is alot easier to see how the whole structure is put together if the side cowl (I've also seen it called a plenum) is removed. They are about $80 each for the repro pieces but mine needed replaced anyway and it will also let you get to all the spotwelds on the hinge panel.

I am also in the process of installing full convertible rockers on my 68. I am having the same 'fit' issues that it looks like you had - see the red circle on the picture. The full convertible rockers seem to separate at the top of the front section (right at the A-Pillar) making the fit a problem. Did you just simply trim off the 'tab' at the front by the A-pillar? My concern is that the inner half of the rockers near the front actual bend inward towards the center of the car, which will make installing the full floor pan a problem.

Hre's a picture of just the side of the cowl off and not the entire cowl. The replacement part for that is only like 30 bucks. It was MUCH easier working with the rocker with that piece off.

Look through my pictures here:

and you'll see a much more pics of replacing the passenger side outer rocker on my coupe. Good pics under the firewall/cowl sections and the rocker section.

I'm installing an outside rocker panel. I've read that you should put the door on to align the spacing.

That should be only on the install right?

I'm going to tear out the old one today and I'm wondering if their is a reason to put the door on?

Christopher,

I see where it's important when putting the rocker on, but their is no reason to have the door on when I take it\\the rocker off, right?

No, the door doesn't need to be on when you take the rocker off. Just make sure you take some good measurements, and make use of either some chalk marks, tons of pictures from all angles, etc to help you get it realligned w/out the rocker in place when you put it back on.
