HF has the collapsible 2 ton hoist on sale for $99 (normal $199). Anybody have one of these and what do you think of it for occasional use ? Strong enough for a Big Block ? They were out so I got a rain check and figured I'd ask you guys before I buy one. Thanks.

That's the one I want. The price has been coming down for a while. Did they say when it is to be restocked? I believe others here have it and will hopefully chime in. Good find! The shipping's more than the hoist!

No they didn't but I was thinking about going back and asking if they would sell me the other $199 one for $99. It has the extenable legs and looks to be more sturdy (but still only rated at 2 ton) but not collapsible.

I've had mine for several years, has pulled many a big block. :)
Just don't pull the legs out while the boom is hooked to the cylinder. :clonk:

I bought a 1.5 ton from one of those fairgraound tool sales, looks like the same stuff. If you are like me and going to use it 2-3 times a year, it is a no brainer. No problems so far.

Sounds like a winner. Now let's hope they don't take too long to send me a rain check card. I might stop in next week to see if they got a shipment. Sometimes places arent real good about sending out those rain checks.

Darn GOOD price if the freight to you doesn't kill it!!!

Fwiw, Pepboys has had one for like $119 in the past IF I remember right?

I was going to drive to to Springfield, MO from Columbia in my S-i-L's little Ford P/U to pick it up to save freight but then I got tight-as---, er, eh, frugal and just didn't buy it....

You might check into this unless you would have to drive too far and gas costs would be the same OR more than freight?

Also, Farm&Home stores like Orschelns and TSC have these cheap every so often too...

I got the one from pep boys with the 2 ton cap., fold up legs and extending boom..$120-20 mail-in-rebate(which i'm still waiting on) I love it so far. swings the 396 around no probs. I used it to put the 67 up on the body dolly yesterday one end at a time. although when I had the boom out to the 1 ton setting while pickin the front end up, it looked like it was under stress. I backed it down to 1 1/2 ton and it went up no sweat.

Buy that 2 ton hoist bro it works great. Sure its kind of a pain to put together because it comes it two little boxes lol but after that it is so worth it. I left it over night holding my dodge 440 motor (had no choice) and it held up great. i got mine for 59.99 + tax and warranty package for a year just in case. Awesome.

That is the one John. I'm going to stop there tomorrow and see if they got any in. Where did you get your tall jack stands ? I'm looking for some of those to use under my lift.
Also got the tall stands and trans/rear end jack at HF years ago - they work fine for home use.

I called the store and they got two in but they are going in order according to the rain check list. Said they would get 2-3 more every three days of so. I got my raincheck on the first day of the sale - so I should not be too far down the list.

"MWH" to answer your question - I guess it was a "sidewalk sale" thing only for that weekend.

Thanks for the info. I am not a big harbor freight shopper, but I wouldn't be surprised if it comes up on sale again sometime soon. I'll keep an eye out. Closest store is 1.5 hours away though. =(

I think my Sam's Club carries a fold-up hoist. Anyone have one of those?

I have the same exact one that JohnZ has in his pic. I got it about 5 years ago from Harbor Freight. I think I paid $240 for it though. They have REALLY come down on the price. If you can get it for 99 bucks, don't hesitate. I've pulled plenty of small blocks and 4 bangers with it, but it hasn't had the honor of lifting a big block..............yet.

I got the Excalibur with long ram 3 ton model that rolls around with short leg tube extensions and has the slip on 4 ' roller extensions. This was the $200 type but purchased when not on sale years back. Stores up right about 2 sq ft space just like your picture but red.

I do like that transmission jack in the picture.
