Just heads up....

Edelbrock suggests their head gasket7310 for many of their sbc aluminum head installs. Those head gaskets cost $50ish a pair.

The head gaskets provided from edelbrock are actually repackagedfelpro gaskets.

I opened a edelbrock sealed package and found 2 head gaskets part #FEL-7733PT2. Those head gaskets costs $14.00 a pair at autozone.

The packaging was edelbrock packaging. Long story short, I bought a pair from Summit and could not find them so I went to autozone and bought them. Then that evening the wife reminded me there was a car part in her trunk, which happened to be the summit bought gaskets.

So there I was looking at 2 sets of gaskets both in edelbrock branded packaging and both gaskets were blue felpro gaskets.

Are you sure they are the exact same Fel Pro gaskets that you get in Auto Zone?Just because they are blue Fel Pro gaskets doesnt mean they are all the same, all of their gaskets are blue, including the race gaskets that are over $100 a pair,as well as gaskets with copper wire rings and other special gaskets.

Jeff,

I just checked the AutoZone web site and the 7733pt2's are $18.99 EACH for a total of $38.00 Summit is a little cheaper but you pay the handling fee which makes it about the same. I had to check because I just sold a set of those gaskets today and I know what I paid for them :(

I would have to call Edelbrock and find out if that is really the gaskets that were supposed to be in the package. Like I said earlier, they have been using the Corteco gaskets. Let us all know what they say. What was the Edelbrock part number ??

Edelbrock 7310
I know the pix is of a diff gasket set, I also an article online refering to the edelbrock headgasket and the picture they showed during the engine build did not look like my gasket or the white corteco gasket.

And I appreciate what your saying when you question the packaging, but seriously, I checked that closely 2 different part suppliers sent me the gaskets in the same looking packaging.

A edelbrock platsic bag, containing a white edelbrock logoed cardboard, edelbrock installation instructions, and 2 fel pro gaskets.

Autozone prices differ depending on store locationdue to state taxes etc... I dunno i just googled and looked at the price itpulled back.

I just found the following snippet on edelbrock site for their e-tec head, I have the rpm head 60999 and my instructions do not say thefollowing:

Head gaskets; Edelbrock # 7310, Fel-Pro #7733PT-2, or #17030 Marine Gasket or GM #10105117; or
Detroit Gasket #5565HG

http://www.edelbrock.com/automotive_new/misc/tech_center/install/6000/6097.pdf

So I am willing to bet you they use whatever gasket they can get the cheapest when they package products. That practice is not unusual or unheard of, so not surprised if this is the case.

I was just warning people that clearly there is no reason other than branding to warrant the premium pricing.

Doesn't suprise me. The auto parts industry loves to rebox inventory. For example, say you own a parts store with Victor gaskets, and you want to convert to Felpro. You would have the Felpro rep either buy the old inventory from you, or, cross-over the inventory, rebox it with a Felpro part number and fill in any coverage gaps with legit Felpro inventory. The old gaskets just get flushed through the system. What a mess! At least this is what I experienced back in the 80's and 90's when I was a rep for a major import auto parts company.

I fell for the same kind of thing when I bought the Air Gap. Edel listed a specific bolt you should use for the manifold and I bought them thinking they were a different length or something. Nope the exact same size and length bolts I had before.

Do you want fries with that? or supersize it? Edelbrock is just adding to their bottom line who dosent do that nowadays? did you think they make special parts that only work with their heads? Aluminum heads do take specific gaskets as the expand and contract more than cast Iron but since alot of S/B came with aluminum heads there are plenty of options, their E-heads for Pontiacs take special length bolts so add $125 to the cost of replacing heads on a Pontiac.
