Having been working on replacing my heater core, I now don't need an assembly manual because I'm certain it looks like this...
Step 1. Reference build sheet for BB or SB.
Step 2. Place appropriately sized heater core on assembly line.
Step 3. Attach rest of Camaro stuff.

I've read that when you replace the heater core, you ought to replace the core and box with a big block core and box...I'm mulling that over. I don't have any intention at this point to but a BB in but I sure don't want to do this again. Any comments?

I haven't gotten the replacement core yet either, so any advice as to who makes a good one is welcome as well.

Thanks,
Scott

You replace the heater core from the inside of the car. Not too hard. To change the box in the engine compartment side you have to remove the fender. Most new heater cores are junk, exception is the ones from Ricks. What I did since my core was the original Harrison core, was take it to a radiator shop and they will rod and repair it for the same price as a new one, about $50.00. The clips that hold the core in usually dont fit the replacement cores anyway.

Maybe a 69 is different than a 67 or maybe I just don't see how, but I couldn't get the core from the inside only. The only way to access is through the engine side and that pretty much requires removing the fender to get to one bolt.
It was a pain.

Maybe if you remove all but that one bolt, you could "bend" out the heater box inside the car and get at the core?

I like the idea of having the core fixed locally, I'll check into that.

I was also thinking of having AN fittings brazed onto the new heater core so that removing the hoses would be less likely to break the core. Not sure if that's a good idea or not...

Thanks,
Scott
