The race itself was just fine and I was very happy to see Harvick win over Snarl Edwards. What got my goat was that a certain Toyota being painted up like the American flag. I wasn't the only one. I get a call during the pre-race show from my neighbor John's wife who asked me to stop by. John is a 92 year old WWII vet and had spun into a dimension of pissed off I had never seen before.

Funny you mention that, I tuned into the race late and I saw the "American" Toyota and told the wife look at the paint job on that car, and said kind of strange seeing that on a Toyota. I don't want to hear that is was "made in America" it's still not an American car and was kind of distasteful in my opinion to put the stars and stripes on it.

I recently saw a Toyota pickup with two 3 x 5 flags on poles on the rear bumper, 12" x 18" flags sticking out each window and flag magnet decals all over it. I looked at it, shook my head and told the driver (as I walked by) he could cover the thing with all the American flags he could fine, but its still a rice burner. The guy muttered something but I kept on walking.

It is sad. Made in America doesn't mean what it used to. America includes all of North and South America and under Shaft-ya (I mean NAFTA) many companies are using this marketing fine line to their advantage. My grandfather used to say, "If it ain't Made in USA then it ain't made here".

Well stickers do make cars faster. Since Kyles car is one big sticker, it should be the fastest car on the track.

The only thing toyota is the engine correct? I thought Gibbs made his own cars and I think they all use the same trannies and rears. I'm not sure though. Haven't really followed since Dale passed away.

I really haven't commented but here goes. Walk up and down the streets you live on, are all the cars American brands? What race, nationality or ethnic background are your neighbors? Now look around on a holiday or think back to last Sunday 9/11/11 and what flags were flying in front of everyones homes and on the cars and trucks you saw driving around that day?

I can think of a lot worse things that could have been put on that Toyota! In this day and age a lot of folks in other countries just might have been burning, trashing and otherwise disrespecting the United States flag so why would I have a problem with an American race team honoring those that lost their lives 10 years ago on 9/11 by putting the flag of the United States on their car even if it represents a non-American car company!

I'm not all gung-ho on all aspects of this "global" economy but it really is what the USofA has been sending it's young soldiers off to die for since WWI. It's been called standing up for our freedom and protecting our country but each time we step in somewhere it opens the door wider to our way of life.

In the grand scheme of things I think I would rather have our flag be the one everyone is waving and cheering for!

Race or nationality has nothing to do with it. Americans come in all shapes, sizes, and colors. There were plenty of American 'brand" cars in the race that would have been a better place to put the flag, in my opinion. Toyota is not an American "brand" and that's the part that doesn't seem right to me and I bet a lot of other folks feel the same way (Pearl Harbor).

I am not against Toyotas or any other brand of car, my wife drives a Toyota, it's her choice.

I would not cover her Toyota with an American flag.

It wasn't a crime, it was just poor taste if you ask me.

Royce I wouldn't cover any car with an American flag but I also wouldn't think to question someone that might want to even if I didn't find it to my taste. Would it really have been ok in your eyes if it was a Chevrolet body with that wrap? If you have no objection to Americans owning a Toyota why would you set a double standard on how they decorate it? Your writing indicates it would be ok on an American companys car!

You really throw out a confusing message saying "Pearl Harbor", The Toyota wrapped in a US flag is distastful and saying Race and Nationality are not at play here! What I read is;

The Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor and Toyota is a Japanese company so their car wrapped in the US flag is in poor taste.

How can that not reflect back on the Japanese "Nationality"? Would it be in poor taste for someone of Japanese decent to fly and American flag? How is that different than the car? Especially since the car belongs to an American race team!

This may just be something we have to agree to disagree on. No big deal.

To me the American flag is sacred and represents many things. To me it is the symbol of America, it is not something I take lightly. It's just the way I was raised. I remove my hat and/or cover my heart (right hand of course) when the Star Spangled Banner is played/sang. A lot of American people gave their lives for that flag. "If" it is going to be used on a car it should be an American car, that is my view and there nothing you or anyone else can say that will change that. I am not anti any other country, race, nation, etc.., but I am Pro American and proud of that.

I think some people take the flag a bit lightly. You see people with torn or ragged flags, faded, etc.. Those are not to be displayed. The flag is not to be flown at night unless illuminated, etc.. Of course it is never to be allowed to touch the ground. Flag duty was a major honor for me in elementary school.

I have driven and owned many types of cars/brands including a Toyota. On a day that is so "historic" and one that will never be forgotten, the American flag should have been put on an American car. If it was just any other day or race, maybe I could live with it.

As usual no hard feelings, you have a right to your opinion.
