My shop was broken into over the night last nite. They made off with 1) 1111480 distributor (that I had sold), 1)1182 steel crank, 1) victor jr tall, 2) holley carbs (4781 and 3418!!). Anyone see a lot of parts like this for sale on e-bay or here let me me know. I'm so P*SS*D!

Put some cameras in hooked up to your pc. Have them email a file when there is motion. You'll have them on video. You can buy cameras that are too small to see and they cost less than the parts that you are losing.
It sounds like someone is coming in and shopping when you have the shop open and coming bak later to do the parts pickup.

Nothing s*cks more than getting ripped off. A few years ago my storage trailer was broken into, they stole a bunch of stuff including my dads 70 Bultaco flat track bike, then upon leaving they felt the need to break the new glass for my 71 camaro, nothing was ever recovered.

Sorry to hear that. There is very few living things lower than a thief. Anyone that has been riped off knows how bad it feels. Hopefully they dropped the crank on their foot and it gets infected and they have to have a leg amputated ;)

(can you tell I hate thieves?)

Big dogs will deter some but, they are easily defeated, I second the cameras and an alarm system. You don't have to pick up after electronic security, if you know what I mean.

I noticed you said "again" does this happen often?

My wife and I just bought a new store in our little town to put her business in. I have a buddy who does surveillance and security systems so I have contacted him for some ideas. We have also tossed the idea of leaving the web cam going here at the shop and watching it from home. I have tried that and it does work.

I would suggest investing in a video surveillance system with the motion detectors to tape any activity in the shop. That will be of a big help for prosecution of any criminals and your insurance company will love you for it!!

My nephew installed an insulated steel power OH Door and then walled off all the windows and made them solid!! 1" thick plywood and 2x4's on the inside and through bolts and all!

Next, he made the walk-through door solid, but still usable!!

He has seen where dude's have tried to get in but they found out that it would be too noisey to try to hack through any of his now solid openings AND the doors are on the street, plus secured solid too.

Hope this helps??

PS., he also leaves a police-scanner on ALL the time and when the doors are shut, and after dark, you have to bang on them to see if he is inside b/c NO light shows anywhere!!!

Partial recovery today. And would would you believe that I actually knew the MF. And without a lot of detail, justice was served. I don't think he will be messing with me anymore.

Ya know 90% of the time it is someone you know or someone who has come into your shop earlier that day,(ive had it happen to me) if you notice someone that comes in starts asking you a bunch of questions, and starts looking at all of your stuff, then leaves with out buying anything, make note of that person because he might just be back at midnight. its a shame that i have to invest hundreds of dollars to make my place a compound rather then a tranny shop just to protect my own stuff. I told the cop once who was looking at my cyclone fence that had been cut up the middle with wire cutters, that i had some vietnam vet buddies, who could install all the cool boobie traps like the bamboo stake that pops up and pins the guy to my fence, he laughed and said i understand your plight however id be the one going to jail,i will never understand our justice system, i have zero sympathy for thieves and crooks,i feel if they are willing to take the risk of climbing over my fence and stealing my stuff that they should take the risk of dying, this may sound cold but when it happens to you you might feel differently,i believe in the old judge roy bean, style of justice. anyway since you cant do that we have installed cameras and vhs tapes,i guess thats the best you can do, sorry to here your stuff got stolen hope you get it all back, goodluck

Glad to hear you caught him. Hopefully he "learnes a lesson" so he will know better in the future.

Tom,
I agree with you. The crooks have more rights than the law abiding citizen. If they are robbing your shop and get hurt they can sue you. What since does that make?

I'm sure you have all heard about the guy that was breaking ito a house and fell through the skylights, he actually won a law suit over that. This was a few years ago. Just plain silly.

I look forward to the day after court. You should be able to give us all the dirt then. We'll all enjoy hearing about how the bad guy got caught.
