I was out behind the house cutting down some oaks that have died from the oak wilt. There was one that I would have to tie up and pull down with my truck so it wouldnt fall the wrong way, so I get a ladder and a long rope. I'm at the top of the ladder and see below me what looked like a gray squirrel scooting across the ground and then up the tree I'm hanging on. Wow thats a gutsy move usually they run the other way. It climbed way up the tree as I watch it and then jumps off and glides across the yard to another tree. That was so cool I've never seen one before. I'm all done tying so I climb down and get to the ground and it flies down right next to my foot, I'm thinking is this a tame squirrel or what. It stuck around climbing and gliding for a while when I noticed one of the trees I dropped had a big hole chewed in it and was full of nesting material.
This explains her boldness and now her nest is lying on the ground, dont know if the young were in it or she was hoping to give birth soon. I usually dont care about squirrels and have shot my share and ran some over by mistake but the thought of a bunch of squirrels flying in my back yard sounded kind of cool. I feel bad now. :(
There I vented.

I have a call in to PETA, they should be by anytime now...

In all seriousness that does suck, I have a soft spot for animals kind of anyway, I grew up shooting birds and raising hell with all the woodland creatures with BB guns and never thought twice about it, but now if I hit an oppossum or a squirrel with my car I feel bad, maybe I'm getting soft in my old age.

I have never seen a flying squirrel in person, that would be pretty cool. Hopefully if it's a she she hasn't given birth and still can build a new home.

When I was a kid a friend brought a shoe box full of baby ones to school and gave me one. It lasted about a week. Also had a sugar glider for awhile in college that an animal nut up the road gave me. Those things are nocturnal and it barked like a puppy in the middle of the night plus it was a biter. Gave it back after a month or so.

My boss just paid $2000 for removal, repair and clean up after flying squirrels nested in his attic. So maybe its good your getting them out of your yard - just hope they dont eye up your attic as their replacement nest!

My father had them in his house, very difficult to erradicate, once they leave their scent more keep coming. Insulaition and sheetrock have to be removed if they urinate on it as it will attract others.

Sounds like he got off pretty cheap. I worked on a house that got raccoons in the attic. After they removed the raccoons all of the insulation in the attic was removed and replaced. I fixed the ceiling where the insulation guy stepped through the drywall on his way out. Sounds like all total that should have cost more than $2000.

Hey Jerry, I'll trade you my bear for your squirrel. ;)
Oh we have one of those too he likes to knock over bird feeders and take them with him.
Also a pair of cougars (the animal type) , an occasional badger, timber wolves and coyotes.

Jimmy you need to get you a bear kill tag and harvest that rascal. The one I got was very tasty.

Jerry you must know how to cook them better than my bear hunting buddy.
He cooked me a roast and told me how great it was, More I chewed the bigger it got!

I have had this guy living on my property for a few years now. Albino!!
I've seen plenty of black ones here but never an Albino

Thats funny.
We wrapped it in bacon then basted it and cooked it in a bed of onions in a roasting pan at low heat in the oven for maybe 5 hours, kept basting it while it cooked and that roast was fantastic
