I have a 69 RS Z28 with the POP I am the third owner. Car seems very legtimate, but I don't know of many (a few) Tonanwanda small blocks. Does anyone out there know of or have a Tonawanda built DZ.

Do you know that none existed?
Like I said I have the POP, I am the 3rd owner of the car, survivor car, original paint, tranny, 4:10 rear, original interior, 36K miles, real RS car etc. I am familiar with restamps and this does not look like one, but I just don't know for a FACT that none where made. I am looking for a REAL resource.

Can you post a picture of the stamping and the POP. I would have to believe it to see it. I have never seen a real one yet.

POP's are being faked and aged. I just saw one ( a faked aged one) a couple of weeks ago.

No (documented) DZ motor ever came from the Tonowanda engine plant, in all this time none have been found. Flint made all of the DZ motors.

Although I do have an engine pad photo from a T0927DZ block that if it was restamped it was done by a master.

Does your motor have a 1/4" square head plug in the passenger side lifter oil gallery between the engine pad and timing chain cover?

Lawrence: Welcome to TC. Some of the most knowledgable people on first gen camaros (Mark C being one of them) hang out here. The feedback you get here will be a REAL resource. :beers:

Does anyone here happen to have the pic or the info on the Tonowanda DZ that was mentioned earlier? Could it be the same one possibly?

I remember seeing it when it showed up, but didnt save anything on it.

Each engine made by a plant needed specific components, pistons, rods, cranks, cam shaft, etc. Tonowanda didn't carry the parts necessary to build DZ motors. Since total production of the DZ motors was only about 60 a day there would be no justification for duplicating the parts at more than one engine plant.

To all that replied thank you.

If I could figure out how to post the POP and the Stamp I would do it----getting late tonight.

Mike C your rationale makes sense but I have the POP---I know there are fakes out there, but I still ask the question why would someone counterfeit a Tonowanda DZ?
Probably because they didnt know any better.

Welcome to the best 1st gen Camaro website. That being said most people know the "DZ" part, not the "V" part.:beers:

Also check this site out. Most of the core members from CRG post here also.http://www.camaros.org/index.shtml

I wish I had pictures of the aged POP that was faked and we could compare it. I am going to try to find pics. The guy called the name on the POP and talked to an original owner of a green 307 car and they said they sold the car to a guy in WA state. Somewhere along the way the car turned Red and into a Z/28 with POP.

The car is not converted. If you saw it you would undertand. It is correct; origianl paint, wiper motor, rear leafs, cowl tag, shifter, rear end, tranny, endura bumper, RS, flat hood, no spoilers and on and on and on.

I think that this is a documented Tonanwanda DZ. Things happened with a mass produced car in 1969.

Negativity??? Who's being negative??

I don't read this as negativity....if this POP and engine stamp checks out it would be some exciting stuff from the standpoint that no one has ever been able to document a Towanda DZ motor.... I know some times it sounds that way but it is not... I would love to see pictures of the car !
