After almost endless searching to all to usual Camaro sites, I too found out they all are Out of Stock.
Except for the site mentioned above. They have Grey/White and Aqua/Black in quart for $75.00.

Might be your only source at this time. Good luck on your pursuit!

 

If you read CRG it is stated some are pleased with GM AC/Delco aerosol trunk spatter paint. SS396 and Amazon say they stock it. I had some not long ago. If you want it done correctly it should be sprayed with a schutz gun. I bought the paint in a quart from Bob at Camaro Specialties.

 

When I restored my trunk several years ago I used the rattle can product that NPD carried. At that time it seemed to be available through nearly all of the typical suppliers you have listed...It looks like NPD no longer has it available as with many others as well.
Speedway motors does still have it listed on their web site but with an estimated restock date of 7/24/24...
Duplicolor does also offer this product and the Duplicolor product line is carried at many of the regular auto parts suppliers like NAPA, O'Reilly, Autozone, Pep-Boys etc.
Might be worth checking your local places to see if they have some?
I used Black/Aqua color on mine with clear topcoat. Has held up very well for several years now.

 

Scott, thank you very much for the advice. I have a schutz gun in my tool box too. Probably have to go that route. I'd rather use a rattle can though. Easy to just throw away the can versus cleaning a gun.

I did just find that on amazon a supplier says that the paint will be available at same time Mr. Johnson. Several suppliers matter of fact.

Hate to wait that long as the back of my car is ready now to be assembled.

Scot, I was going to try to help out by directing you to "Camaro Research Group", (camaros.org), for color selection and pattern because, IIRC, it depends on if the car was built in Van Nuys or Norwood. But, I couldn't find it.

I'm sure it's there somewhere...

Thanks 69-er. I have been on there alot for lots of research. I see remnants of aqua/gray specs on my cocktail shakers. My car is Norwood built

 

I wanted to touch up a few spots in my trunk. I read good things about Guru paints, so gave it a try on some test pieces, not the car. It's all in the technique they say.

ThortonMuscleCars.com is where to buy this if this is the pattern you want. You have to buy the spreckle aqua and the dark gray base seperately.

It isn't easy achieving the results shown but can be done with practice. I don't recall ever seeing dots as splatter paint except at car shows today. I remember the originals looking closer to what I already have in my car currently and choose to simply apply coat of satin clear over the existing paint. Maybe LOS & NOR had different processes or is this a Fisher body thing?

 

I have used that product. I don't just spray it. I kinda sling it as I am spraying it. I love that stuff. 👍🇺🇸

 

My cocktail shakers are like that. Looks like spatter paint was slung on the surfaces.

 

Wherever that article is on CRG, I believe it says the Van Nuys cars were "slung" and the Norwood cars were "spattered".

The Black/Aqua AC Delco spray paint I got was from Amazon. I see its "temporarily out of stock" now

 

If you use AC Delco spatter paint, make sure to spray clear over it because it is not waterproof. Found out the hard way and had to respray mine.

 

You guys are mentioning trunk spatter paint, have had this for many years. The real original stuff. Paint within the can needs to get put into another can cause the pressurization is gone, Still liquid in there though, who know if its still any good.

 

I purchased a pint of Zolotone and shot it with a very large tip. It throws it on ropy and splattery. I thought it turned out pretty good.

In case anyone is still looking for the simple rattle can solution, it looks like Heartbeat City has trunk spatter paint in three color options in stock...

 

Hi. Did you find the rattle cans you were looking for? If not, I have extra cans of AC Delco paint. The guy I bought my car from in early 2022 gave me 10 cans. I can't possibly use them all. Not sure what it would cost to ship these since they are pressuring aerosol. They were purchased from ATech Motorsports in August 2021, located in Tallmadge Ohio, phone is 800-517-1040.

 

There were 3 colors, white on gray, white on black and aqua on black. This company has the real deal and no need for clear and is not water based. "Guru Color, Authentic Restoration Line", product by Thornton Restoration. On the internet. Used it and it is great.

 

 

If you are looking for the most authentic, Google "John Berlage trunk". It's about the best you will get. I have used the Harbor Freight 2 quart pressure pot with great success to spray it; Lay down a base of black epoxy first.

 

Looks good. Being water soluble it will have to be clear coated. The factory did not use water soluble spatter that is why I recommend Guru Color. He is a concours restoration of Olsmobiles and this is his product that he formulated.

 

Here's a shot of an original, 13.5k mile Norwood car's trunk.

As far as water soluble, it is water reducible which I think is a bit different. Once it cures and the water flashes out, water does not seem to affect it. I tried taking a wet rag and wiping it and it wouldn't touch it. Maybe like the new paints where it is water borne but obviously once they cure water does not hurt them.

 

Guru spatter paint has been out of stock for the past couple of months. That trunk just above looks great.
