I am looking for a shop to build a 383 Stroker for me in western Washington, does anyone have a shop they can recommend to me?

Arlington huh? I grew up in North Marysville, live near Mill creek now. What kind of car are you working on?

What's your goal and budget? Looking for a decent rebuild, leaning toward performance or a high end race oriented motor?

Contact Fred Ficarra or George Kettler (Kettbo) , they are always working on an engine. :D

Are you starting out with anything, block, heads etc? If you are not 6k can be gone pretty quickly especially if you use good parts. Will it be mostly a driver or will you be racing it a fair amount?
One of the shops that comes to mind is DG machine, Dale Green is a good guy and I have heard nothing but good about them. Works with racers a lot (if you call tell him someone with the NPSA recommended them).
I know of some good "budget" shops that could handle the build too. It really depends on your goals and desired use. I will say avoid Eagle parts in anything but a serious budget project.

I am starting with nothing, I sold my last engine I had thinking I would never have another project car... It will mostly be a fair weather driver, but I would like to have a little big of bragging rights with it. Have you heard anything about sandjengines.com based out of spokane, at lot of shops over here are selling their products.

It will be real easy to spend 6K but you should be able to meet your goals. If you can the assembly it will save you a bunch too, I do my own assembly because I enjoy it personally.
Any reason you are not going with a 4.125 bore block as opposed to a 4.00/ 383?
Never heard of the guy in Spokane, I would stay more local because there are plenty of great shops. DG is in Auburn by the way.

I am too far south and presently buried in home summer projects when a rental I had to have came to be.

Get with my buddy Darryl 'Doc' Berg in Arlington. He has stacks of stuff (no crap!) and an in-house machine shop. He has lots of toys...many serious go-fast cars. BBC or SBC, no doubt he can perscribe something fer ya.Darryl is known by fryntyr on Team Chevelle and a NW go-fast website called www.tcnwracing.com

Building it yourself will be fun, buying the tools and needed supplied will still save you some money and you keep the knowlage and tools for a lifetime.

It's possible that with the needed payouts of BBQ and cold fizzy drinks of choice you may even get a few experianced TC buddys that live near you to lend a hand and some training to make sure you get it right.
