No, rotor should face the #1 piston.
Nope. They never corrected THAT misprint/typo in the Service Manual either, which has caused more "won't start" first-fires than anything else. The tip of the rotor shouldn't point at ANY piston or cylinder. With the #1 cylinder at TDC on the compression stroke (both valves closed), install the distributor so the tip of the rotor points to the #1 wire tower in the cap. Yes, it's that easy. :thumbsup:

Here's the correct orientation of the distributor body, advance window, and vacuum advance can, and the correct indexing of the wires in the cap with the distributor properly installed. :thumbsup:
