ok now this engine will be getting my 436 small block chevy race engine, this is gonna be my drag car, prostreet build, took me over two years to build this engine between finding a good block and saving for all the parts, took 1yr just to locate a block able to handle the power i was gonna put to it.all cylinders sonic checked over .250 thickness and most were even over .it was then line honed and had eagle splayed billet caps installed and line honed, then i ordered my eagle lightweight forged crank with 4.000 in stroke, next was a set of kryptonite rods,i then had to custom order my mahel pistons for 9.5:1 compression, for my plans on twin turbo chargers in the future, then i called crowler and had custom camshaft made on small base circle and 630 lift with 1.6 scorpion roller rockers.its a solid roller cam with 245 duration, and also ordered my new roller lifters from crowler.i then got my comp cams springs good to .700 lift and 1 piece push rods and manley valves.then i ordered my rhs racing heads there pro elites all cnc ported to 228cc.so heres some pictures of my beast.

my next challenge is gonna be finding a good m-20,or m-21 to mate to my engine as this is an original 4 speed car and plan to keep it that way,or maybe even a good super t-10 if i can find one at a decent price.
Re: 79 camaro z28 436sbc/4speed build.bright cobalt blue metalli
i also purchased my paint kit for this, its gonna be sprayed bright cobalt blue metallic,i love this color and cant believe the amount of metallic in this paint its a beautiful color, hope it looks as good sprayed on as it does in the can,its always been my dream to own a blue camaro z28 since my dad bought one new in 1979,he had that car for years and i loved it as a kid and now i can finally have my dream and i wanted mine to be a 4speed wich this is been searching for a 4speed for awile there not that easy to come by in michigan especially in a z28.this car originally came witha super 10 im hoping to find one soon.but heres the paint that i ordered it should be perfect.
Re: 79 camaro z28 436sbc/4speed build.bright cobalt blue metalli
well picked me up a like new front bumper cover today, the one thats on it needs alot of work it also came with extra radiator core support, will probably sell that one dont need it also came with bumper and braces and headlight buckets and bezels, sweet.the bumper cover is in perfect shape i just need to scuff then prime it,its completely straight with no bends or ripples.
Re: 79 camaro z28 436sbc/4speed build.bright cobalt blue metalli
Pretty cool find! those are slightly tough to remove and install-- especially up around the headlight areas on the outer curves. Tight squeeze in there to reach that series of bolts connecting each side to the fenders. I remember it vividly.
Re: 79 camaro z28 436sbc/4speed build.bright cobalt blue metalli
thx todd i appreciate it ,yeah i remember taking the one off my 80,yes they are a little difficult but in the end it should be worth it,hopefully it wont give me too many problems, the one thats on it is only held by a few screws guy was gonna remove it then decided to put it back on .
Re: 79 camaro z28 436sbc/4speed build.bright cobalt blue metalli
heres a few pictures of my new bumper cover its in much better shape than the one that on it now, luckily both my fenders are only on by a couple bolts so i can move them where needed to get my new one on so is the bumper cover thats on it.gonna look much better with this one.
Re: 79 camaro z28 436sbc/4speed build.bright cobalt blue metalli
i had always thought the 79-81 camaros had the 85 mph speedo,my 79 z28 has a 130 mph speedo thats waesome wont need to change it,and it also has a oil presure guage i was told none of the second gen camaros had oil pressure gauge just a dummy light,is this original or was it changed by the previous owner.thx.
Re: 79 camaro z28 436sbc/4speed build.bright cobalt blue metalli
yeah todd thats what i thought,he must have put the oil presure gauge in place of the clock, thx for the picture, where ur clock is thats where the oil pressure gauge is.what about the speedo did a 79 come with a 130 mph speedo.i always thought the 79 camaros got the 85 mph speedo.
Re: 79 camaro z28 436sbc/4speed build.bright cobalt blue metalli
he must have added that too, awesome saved me some work,i wanted the 130 speedo, and the oil pressure gauge will be good, while still looking stock,no need for extra gauges on my dash want it too look somewhat original.
Re: 79 camaro z28 436sbc/4speed build.bright cobalt blue metalli
finally got the chance to work on my z28 a little today, warmed up a little,i sanded the passenger front fender was glad to find no big bondo repairs, didnt find any bondo on it.but has a couple small ripples on the top edge i will need to use filler on,an easy fix.spent most of the day sanding my front bumper coverneeded lots of TLC,cuz whoever painted it last failed to use flex additive and had spider cracks everywhere, well got all them sanded smooth and feathered, still has quite a few scratches i will need to fill, but luckily no rips or tears, and cleaned it really good with wax and grease remover, couldnt apply no filler today the temp wasnt warm enough, thats my project for tomarrow supposed to be even warmer, but first i will sand it once more and clean again with wax and grease remover then apply my filler, sand flat and smoth with 180 grit paper and 2k primer.
Re: 79 camaro z28 436sbc/4speed build.bright cobalt blue metalli
spent the day working on my cover.applying filler and sanding it flat, looking much better, cant wait to see how she looks in primer, tomarrow i can finally lay my primer, then i can move on to the next panel havent decided if im gonna do the door jams or the engine bay next,we will see, saved me alot of work for now just fixing this one then swapping covers looked alot worse than it was and didnt require to much wok to get it smooth again, just mostly a bunch of spider cracks in the paint, will also apply bulldog adhesion promoter to the spots i sanded to bare plastic, tried to avoid that ut in some places i had no choice, looks much better than it did when i started.
Re: 79 camaro z28 436sbc/4speed build.bright cobalt blue metalli
was a beautiful day today finally got some work done on my camaro, finished all the sanding and cleaned it up with wax and grease remover, even sprayed 2 coats of primer today, its looking much better now than when i strted glad to finally seem like im getting somewhere,so its on to the next panel,my passenger fender will be next that should be quick and easy,as my fenders are in awesome condition.
Re: 79 camaro z28 436sbc/4speed build.bright cobalt blue metalli
another beautiful day in michigan 65 degrees i love it.spent the day working on my girl, sanding down the fender and preping it for primer took all day to sand it as i do all my sanding by hand, never had very good luck with a d.a sander, have better results by hand and much smoother.the hardest part was getting all the rock chips out of the lower section had to sand all that down to old primer.all cleaned with wax and grease remover in few minutes i will be laying my last coat of primer on it.will post those pictures later.
