Re: 79 camaro z28 436sbc/4speed build.bright cobalt blue metalli
decided to start pulling my front clip havent got alot done yet,but something that needs to be done,so i can paint my engine bay correctly so i will be painting my fenders and nose off the car.
got some more work done,so i need to update a litttle got the front clip down to the radiator core wich is as far as im gonna go,has new new core bushings and really no need to remove it.also had a pretty good rust hole in my cowl under the weather stripping what a bad surprise that was.so welded a new patch in and started filling it with evercoat z.grip, its coming along little by little.
time for another update i got my radiator core all painted in new cast silver and my suspension and steering components will be painted daytona yellow.
The first pic reminds me of my teens with this 78, this is around 1982 had a LS-7 and 4:10 dana 60 my brother put in when it was just a couple years old, some kid backed into the fender at the gas station..
man that would suck bet that thing was fast with that ls-7 454,i love the looks of those 78 z28s there sharp.yeah looks alot like mine did when i first got it.there was alot of them painted that color this is my second one i also had an 80 camaro sports coupe painted that color too.
got the chance to work on my engine bay some more today, wont be long and i can start on my firewall and maybe see some blue soon.got the crossmember to my frame painted and the centerlink and sway bar wont be long now and i can start installing my beast 436 sbc.
well i worked on my engine bay a little more last night, got the firewall all sanded down to 400 grit and layed its first coat of primer just need to smooth a few places before laying its final coat of primer.
ok worked on the camaro a little more today, smoothed the firewall in a few places that really needed it,and layed the final coats of primer and wet sanded it with 600 then 800 grit, its now ready for the cobalt blue metallic just needs to warm up a little so maybe tomarrow.
Kevin--- moving right along there I see. Good pace!
Before shooting the blue, are you going to remove those cover plates installed over the original evaporator cut out and blower motor hole? After paint, be sure to seal those well with either strip caulk or seam sealer to prevent a possible water leak. OR-- you can even weld them in permanently. Just lookin' out for ya...
no bro im just gonna leave them in place while i paint them seem to be sealed really well had to clean up all the seem sealer they made a mess with.LOL...thx todd for the heads up its only gonna be temporary until i build my firewall plate wanna make it flush with my cowl so it looks better and be smooth.
finally got to lay some blue on my firewall lastnight, sanded it all down one last time and layed 2 coats of cobalt blue metallic then 2 coats of clearcoat came out pretty smooth but still wanna build a nice firewall plate for it soon.
got to spend a little time working on my camaro again today so figured it was a good time to paint my door jam, came out really good i love this color and im so glad i picked this blue, its gonna go perfect with the white baldwin motion stripes i have planned.
