Heres my problem... Im replacing my standard grill and Im at the point of installing the side brackets. The problem is I forgot the correct way they go on. If anybody has a pic of them installed, it would help greatly. I've searched all over for an image and found nothing.

They are side brackets that attach to the back side of the standard grill, and then attach to another bracket that is attached to the headlight bucket. My service manual doesn't even show them in the diagram.
 
Thanks for the pic ! I'm not too familar with the standard grill, but I do see those brackets (part # 3919180) in the Assembly Manual. They're shown with the 2 holes riveted to the end of the grille. The flat face of the bracket goes towards the front, 90* bend towards the back (engine side). I don't see where the slotted end attaches....thinking directly to the headlamp housing ??

Yes-- bolts to the headlight buckets and rivets to the grille ends. Rick's catalog has a good description of them... see link:
