you have a TBI 305... might just need a tuneup- plugs, wires, cap and rotor- as well as a fuel filter. the catalytic converter is also getting old and might be plugging up, and the stock exhaust systems on those cars are crap from a performance standpoint.
also, hook up a timing light and see where the initial timing is. there is a wire somewhere that you have to unhook to get a good reading. i think the factory spec is 0 BTDC, but they wake up if you pull it ahead to about 10BTDC. but it will just retard the timing back to factory spec unless you unhook that wire- wherever it is..
how many miles are on it? if it's getting up there, then the timing chain might be getting sloppy, which will kill power by retarding the cam and dragging the ignition timing with it.. a timing chain is a $50 part that takes all day to put in- all weekend if you don't know what you are doing- but is a good way to learn how to fix stuff yourself without the need to worry about screwing things up too badly.
but always remember that you will never, ever, make a bone stock TBI 305 into anything that will beat everything else on the road unless you spend thou$ands of dollars on it, so don't even try..
also, those cars are easy to pull codes from the computer- you just need a paperclip and the ability to count how many times the light flashes..
