I have a 67 350 with TH350 trans. I have a lot of play in my steering. I have tubular A arms, all the bushings are good. I was wondering if anyone has experience with the Borgenson steering box? Is the steering different from the stock box? Would I have to modify the steering column? Also, can I use the rag joint? I was trying to decide on replacing the box with a stock steering box or go with a Borgenson box. The price of a stock and a Borgenson is not that much. Thanks.

I seem to recall the Borgenson being about triple what a standard box is but maybe times have changed. The steering is much tighter and quicker depending on the ratio you pick. The Borgenson is brand new, not a refurb. The box may or may not come with a new rag joint but if not I would replace it with theirs.

I have a 69 and replaced the stock box with Borgenson 800130 Street and Performance box about 3 years ago - It takes a little getting use to at first but I would recommend it - I also used Borgenson PN
990012 rag joint .

I checked Summit Racing. It's about $470 for the box only. Borgeson doesn't list the box on their website. I think a new pump might be the way to go instead of a rebuilt pump. Thanks

Did you have to modify the steering column or steering shaft? What did you have to get use to? Thanks

I also have a new Borgeson power steering box. I think it made a noticeable improvement in steering. It is not the same, in my opinion, as steering in a modern car but still worlds better.
I would like to get all the slop out of the steering. I don't think it will ever feel like a modern car, no matter what I do. Thanks

I have the Borgeson 800130. I like it, popular choice in 1sr gen F bodies. There are plenty of other options with good results too. I think the Z28/Grand National replacement is popular too, a value from Rock Auto.
In the past I had problems with steering boxes from Rock Auto. When I had a MOPAR I went through a couple of boxes until my mechanic said forget it had had his source provide a rebuilt box. Thanks

agreed.

The Z28/Grand National box I was referring to is usually called the IROC box... Camaro Guy reminded me of that, it is all the same unit. Do a search, most have great success with them, but there are a few that have got duds and had to replace them. I am happy with the Borgeson box. They are a semi local company to me, so buying their box was kind of like buying local... even though it came thru Summit. It has zero play and is pretty quick, different from what I removed for sure, there is no center that floats.

Note the Borgeson box requires adapters to work with the factory hoses, my box did come with those adapters. I used the Borgeson rag joint too, fit perfect.

Thanks for the info. Very useful.

Ridesdirt do you have a picture of the fittings that came with your box?

I think the “ IROC “ box is the best bang for the buck for sure. plenty good for some spirited back road driving. I used it at a few auto crosses.
I used it for awhile, I gave it to my buddy to use in his 64 GTO. He really likes it
I went to a 10:1 box from Turn One.
it’s real tight, and fast. But you need to empty your wallet out for those.

EDIT: I just saw this on the TurnOne website
"Due to the slow discontinuation of OEM steering box components over the past several years, we are sorry to say Turn One’s performance boxes are no longer available.
This does not have any impact on our ability to service and rebuild steering boxes"

Man, I do not, and just covered them up yesterday! They are inverted flare to -6AN as linked above. While I was reworking my steering lines, I was digging around in the "extras bin" and actually found another pair. I can get a picture of those later.

Best picture I have:

Where did you get the brass adapters? I dont have a borgeson, but a IROC box. It is metric. Will those work for mine too? The picture below is what i have in int now. Im not sure if it will leak.

I would need to do a little research to refresh my memory, but I think you are fine.

The goal is to adapt from the oring to -6AN. The adapters I used have the brass inserts which convert from o-ring to inverted flare, then the thread item converts from inverted flare to -6AN.

The adapters you have look like they go from o-ring direct to -6AN, probably a better set up. I think you are good to go, just eyeball where the o-rings will be, the inside of the steering gear should be machined out for them, just make sure it looks right. Pretty sure you are golden!
