Just thought these pics of 68 Camaro Pace Cars were cool and wanted to share--I wonder who has them now?:

1968 Daytona 500:

JANUARY 25: 1968 Permatex 100 - Riverside - NASCAR. The Chevrolet Camaro pace car leads the race field around the track.

Road America, Elkhart Lake, WI . British driver Stirling Moss in the pace car at the wheel of a 1968 Chevrolet Camaro Convertible Z/28, for the Can-Am SCCA race on Sunday, September 1, 1968.

It has been said, that one reason the reason the one off Z/28 convertible was built was because Chevrolet General Manager Pete Estes liked rag tops but he also liked to bring a special car to Road America on their big race weekend.

The 1967 Cherokee Camaro convertible was at Elkhart Lake in '67 and was used as a pace car.

Chevy brought many custom and prototype cars to Road America for the races for many years.

FWIW--the 1968 Daytona pace car was driven by the US Secretary of Transportation, Alan S. Boyd.

I know there was some TC activity about 6-7 years back with a guy asking questions about his 68, a late 90's Super Chevy article, and there was/is a 68 pace car in the International Motorsport Hall of Fame in Talladega, AL..

Thought I recalled seeing a NASCAR Pace Car Camaro at the Floyd Garrett museum in Pigeon Forge, TN, but don't remember if it was a 68.

Time to expose the truth ladies and gentleman.
The Camaro Pace Car RS only 1 of 1 non replica is the car my father has sitting in his garage right now.

It's not restored yet it's going to need some work but just helping shed the light that it is in good hands.

Me and him are just finishing up his 69 Mach 1 then onto the Pacecar!

Vincent-- it's good to hear it didn't disappear and is in the hands of the right people. You have a great piece of history there. Can you share its story? And even better a picture?

Thanks,
Brent
