Well I finally got to see this car :) my wife's new camera will take some getting used too, my up close pics suck. :( but decoding the tag says this :

1 = Chevrolet
2 = Camaro
4 = 8-cylinder engine
67 = convertible body
7 = 1967 model year
L = Los Angeles, CA assembly plant (Van Nuys)
125165 = vehicle serial number sequence

Decode for body number: 001256

12A = Built the First week of December.
67-12667 = Custom Interior Convertible.
LOS = Built in Van Nuys California.
711 = Custom Gold Bucket Seats.
Z = (A50) Strato Bucket Seats.
G-2 = Lower Color is Granada Gold and the Convertible Top Color is Black.
F428 = internal plant scheduling code.
Options:
1W = (A02) Tinted W/S only
1D = (C06) Power top convertible
2M = (M35) Powerglide Transmission
2G = (D55) Console front compartment
3L = (Z22) Rally Sport Package
4P = (L48) SS 350
5B = (V31 & V32) Front and Rear Large Bumper Guards
5Y = (A39) Belts All Deluxe

So now its more obvious the car has 'changed' a little. Orignally Gold and black top but NOW red and white top. Interior was Gold but NOW is black. Kinda sad isnt it?
The engine was replaced too, its a CE126111 which is Chev. Engine 1971 #26111 from Flint, my guess someone blew up the original one so its got a 71 block now.
V1106TKT is the i.d. on the block pad. Im not sure what that number means, anyone?

It was raining so badly we couldnt get the car into another shop on a hoist, so he will do that later this week and check tranny and axle for codes and let me know.
The trunk seems to have a Ziebart type rustproofing sprayed all over but its flaking off now too, see pics. The trunk floor has rust starting to push up thru. The area below the package tray you can see thru the large hole in the trunk pic, its rusting now, so the resto done years ago by someone wasnt complete and didnt get into 'unseen' areas. The elec. headlight doors work, as does everything else. 'Non' power brakes, aftermarket guages under dash, added stereo.
So guys, with non matching engine, non original colors and the flaking trunk, whats it worth?

TKT = Truck motor.

FWIW, Nice shots of the problem areas. Its too bad they changed the colors. You don't see many Gold/Gold convertibles.

Very sad they changed it :( I wonder what brand that crap is on the inside of the trunk. It seems to be coming off in chunks leaving a smooth surface.

I don't think the CE stamping in this case means a service replacement engine, as they wouldn't have stamped the VxxxxTKT too. I think it's the CON VIN from a Chevy Truck (C) assembled in Linden, NJ (E).

TKT suffix has three uses.

TKT 1974 350 conv.cab 160 4 C-10 & 1500
TKT 1978 350 fwrd cab L LS9 165 4 C-20 to 3500
TKT 1980 350 conv. cab, a/t L LS9 165 4 K-10 & 1500

I would think the CON VIN would have a number between the division letter and assembly plant letter.

Jim, wish you the best on your decision with the car. The color change is a huge dissappointment.....my car was originally gold too and will return to that some day. As jg95z28 already posted, the engine is from a pickup. Someone built a 4 bolt block, which isn't all bad, since it doesn't have the original engine anyway. It reminds me of the yellow one I recently sold......a quick going over to look good, but not an actual "resto". I'm sure you could enjoy it for a long time before tearing it down for a proper resto. My estimates are always low, but I think 20-22k should buy it.

The wife's camara.....are you selecting the "macro" setting for the close-ups ?? It will focus much better in that mode. My point and shoot is rather annoying that way too. When I elect to turn off the flash, it will never "self focus" so I need to hold very still to keep it from getting fuzzy. Nice thing about the digitals is you can practice your heart out till you learn how to get it right and just delete all the junk afterward.....:thumbsup:

Ive used the tulip (macro) setting on close ups with my own digital and hers but this new one of hers just wouldnt settle down, I braced my elbows on the fender and air cleaner but it just wouldnt focus in either tulip or standard mode with zoom. I need to practice with it to get it right. :)

I believe the car appears to be in good shape and would make an excellent daily driver as it sits. It all depends on what function Jim is looking.

Paul, its in a huge upcoming auction in June. If the crowd is huge, and alot of folks wont do their homework to know its not all 'correct', so anybody's guess on what it will bring. If 2 guys dont care and just love the car as it sits, I can see someone bidding way past $30k but as always, depends on who does their homework. I turned over all the info. on the decode to the mechanic, he didnt know most of the stuff I was asking about. :)

Well, depends on the auction. Out here some of the auctions bring stupid money but the others are reasonable. If that car was in the last auction I attended out here I would guess (based on your description and pics) that car would have bid into the high 20's....

That's too bad Jim.......somebodies gonna love the Red on Red and bid it out of sight....:sad: I thought you were trying to negotiate a fair deal.:(

Whoa - Talk about twins!! Our 12A built LA '67 SS/RS convert has the exact same trim tag options. The VIN is 125147, body # 1253, the LOS plant code is F308 and it's still Gold/Gold. Any idea where the car was originally sold? Ours was first sold at Beach City Chevrolet in Long Beach, CA.

Here's a pic in the CG Showroom:

Agree on the bidding. Just watched a 67 original 6-cylinder base model convertible that was restored as an SS 350 4-speed sell on e-bay for over $28K (red on red). If the buyer does any homework, the car may very likely be for sale again.

I have no idea of the history of the car or where it was bought by the current owner but the auction is in South Dakota in June and I might attend just to have a getaway weekend. :)
