I know this is a topic that has been dicussed many time before. I just can't narrow it down for my needs. I had 15" Rallys with P205 60/R15 on the front and P235 60/R15 on the rear. I like the look and the way the car sat. I now have 69 14" SS wheels on my car. I have P225 60/R14 on the front and P235 60/R14 on the rear. It appears I have lost an inch or two on the rear. The front doesn't look too bad , but I want a taller look in back. It appears I have plenty of room. Here is where I show my ignorance, which number on the tire size indicates the wall width? I'm happy with the width of the tire on the ground, just not the side wall. Now that I have everyone thourghly confused, any recommendations? Thanks for the help.

This is what I have figured on your tires. Originally you had 27.3" front and 29.1 rear" (height). Now you have 27.5" front and 28.1" rear. In order to get your rear height back you need to go with a 235/65/R14, (29.2") or a 245/60/R14 (28.7"), or a 255/60/R14 (29.3") You lost your height going with the 14" rim but made it up on the front going with a wider tire, but you stayed the same size on the rear. The 60,65,70 on the tire size is the aspec ratio which determine the side wall height. Exp, 235 x .06 + 14 = 28.1" Hope this helps. Here is a great site with everything you want to know about tires.

Ed, I gave you the wrong tire heights. The sizes are correct but what you had was 24.7 & 26.1. Going with the 14" you have 24.6 and 25.1. 1" off on the back. If you change the rear tire to a 235/65/R14 it will put you back at 26.1. If you want to stay with a 60 series tire you need to go with a 255/60/R14. Sorry about that. The theory was right but actual sizes off.
I'm still learning too. Here's another site where you can put in tire sizes and see the difference.

I am finding it impossible to find The BF Goodrich Radial T/A's in size 235/65R14, or 245/60/R14, or 255/60R14. One tire place online said the closest they would have are 225/70-14. Has anyone used this size on rear of 69 Camaro? Does anyone have a source for any of the other sizes mentioned? Thanks Ed

The only size I found of the 3 was 245/60/R14. It was at Big O tires out here. Might want to check one by you.

REAR? HA!! On my old 1969 back in the early 1990's I was running P245/60/R14 ON THE FRONT. They were Uniroyal Rally GTS. I got them from a friend of mine who had them on his 1979 Z28. They fit on my 14x6 Rally Wheels with no rubbing. On the rear I had L60x14 JC Penney Scat Trac 60's. I got those from a friend of mine who had them on a 1969 Mach I Mustang. I think L60x14 is roughly 265/60/14. They also cleared on my 14x6 wheels with no rubbing. I don't believe anyone makes a 14" tire larger than P245/60/R14 anymore. Original equpiment in a bias to radial size for many of these cars was the equivalent of P195/75/R14 or possibly P205/75/R14. The 195's Radials were OE on Buick Regals, Olds Cutlass, Pontiac Ventura's, Chevy Nova's and other cars in the late 1970's. I know this for a fact as many of my friends and I drove cars like these in the mid to late 1980's.. And I also sold tires off and on from 1989 - 1998...A P195/75/R14 is 25.51 inches in Overall Diameter (OD). A P245/60R14 is 25.57" OD, a P235/60R14 is 25.10" and a P205/75/R14 is 26.10 which is exactly the same OD as a P235/60R15. I run P235/60R15 all the way around in my car with n o issues on 15x7 Rally's.

I have a 69 camaro ss with 15" wheels. I am currently running 235/70R 15's on the rear. I want wider tires for the back. My tire guy recommended 255/60 on the back. Is that my best choice.
Would a set of G-Force 195/60 15 fit?

A 195 is a pizza cutter that would look good on the front of a pro street/drag car maybe
going wider depends on how wide your wheel is, you could fit a 275 in the back if you had a 9" wheel. If the tire guy said a 255 would work on your wheels I do that if it's the widest that will work on them.
A 235 will work on the front.
