Rear disc brake JL8 cars are extremely rare, most 1969 Z28 Camaros. Is there a registry of these special cars? How many found in 1969 Camaro SS 396 cars? What is the most common gear ratio found?

Nope Nope and Nope
They show up from time to time but many are add on cars too. No registry but www.camaros.org has some info. on the JL8 option in its data base. Gear ratio was not related to JL8 either. You could have the JL8 with a 6 cylinder coupe too.

To date only one non Z/28 has been located thought to have been built with JL-8 There is no paperwork but the car is complete and all there. It is not an SS either.

The Z11s used to pace the race had JL-8 but it was retrofitted at the Tech Center for some reason. The cars were not ordered with it.

The best source for JL-8 tech info is Wayne Guinns' excellent book: Camaro Untold Secrets. The JL-8 section is 34 pages!

I also remember an original 6 cylinder JL8 car discussed here that included pictures. I believe the car was found in southern CA. Not sure what color it was.

There is one SS JL-8 car here in Sweden, it was found in Belgium around 1980. It has been parted out and will never see the roads. It had the JL-8 frontbrakes. Car had been in Belgium since new and what I have heard bought to be raced.

I have the 307 factory a/c JL8 car. I found it almost two years ago and started the resoration about six months ago. The metal work on the shell is complete and awaiting some seam sealer prior to primer. The loose pieces (doors, deck lid, fenders, etc.) are all painted. And, before you ask, yes I did paint it Frost Green because that's the way it came. I have talked to Wayne Guinn and sent him some pictures and he is very excited about the car. He will add it to his website when it is completed.

Dan, I too would also love to hear about another 307 car that may exist. Please share any information the owner is willing to let go of.

I forgot to add one more update on the car. Last summer Jerry MacNeish certified the car. I had it on the lift when he arrived and as soon as he walked under and looked at the rear end his comment was "this car has never been apart".

Kurt,Did you personally inspect this car? Wayne Guinn has info, you should contact him to discuss this car.Wayne has No issues with car. Body number and date code line up with vin number. Before you so outspoken about this car, post details and pictures of what You think is wrong. Yes I heard its a L89 car,but the original motor is long gone. This guy owned the car since 1974,never left Wisconsin till now.If you saw this car up close, you might watch what you say in a open forum about this car. My friend who bought this is very passionate about 69 Camaros because of me from the 1970's owning many back then.He remembers all my BB Camaros, including the "Blue Mule " 1969 Copo X-11 Malchom Konners car which is now owned by Alan Forman of Nevada. Dave who owns this car lived on Washington Valley in Martinsville NJ.I call his house 4th gear, cause thats what I was in flying by his house! Dave remembers well those times, ran to the front of the house many times to try to catch a glimpse. Anyway I'm running a NICB report on it too.Someones doing me a favor. By the way Daves a Quadraplegic,no use of his arms or legs, fell off a cliff my years ago!! Thats WHY I drove it,Nicole his girlfriend and me lifted him into his car that Sunny Saturday,Dave smiled ear to ear !!!! Please if you have a problem and don't want to contact Wayne Quinn Email me and I will forward your emails to Wayne. Wayne HAS NO issues with car!! Kurt,,By the way Wayne was one of the founding fathers of the CRG Camaro site too. Take care,Dan Palchanes

Kurt,Email with details why you think the tag is a repo.Point out the details in the pictures. Question,Wayne saw the detail pictures and had No problem giveing the go a head on being a True JL8 396 car.In fact Wayne was in the process of giving the docs to the prior owner. Now Wayne is giving the docs to Dave. The car did have a repaint, but other then after market front and rear sway bars, looks untouched underneath. Dan

Dan, I talked to the previous owner quite a bit about the car and the tag is definitely not original. There is a lot of stuff that has been changed on the car over the years so who will really know if it's an original JL8 SS396 or not. I have some of the pictures of the car and it's not conclusive. I was interested in the car a couple of years ago but never got enough evidence of it being a JL8 L89 car. It appears to be original JL8 components on the car but it's tough to tell if they were added or there originally.

I used to own the car in question. The "shadow from the old cowl tag" is a shadow from a recent paint touch up. The car is real, as is the cowl tag. Wayne has seen the pictures and looked at many of the casting numbers. I NEVER said that I knew where the engine was! I sure wish that I had that back. I like the car the way it is now and wish that others could understand that. That being said, the car will speak for itself.
