1969 Console lights...!?!?

Ok, here is my situation ... I have a new wire harness, new gages new bulbs, pretty much new everything in my original console. I'm having two issues (that I'm aware of) and I'm sure getting tired of taking the console apart, especially since the seats are in the car.

1.) Temp gage not working - new wiring new temp sensor. I think eventually this one will get figured out since it is really only one wire, but please feel free to comment.

2.) This is the one that really has me stumped. There are four gage pods, each with it's own light bulb. 3 of them seem to be working normally. But one (in this case it's the oil pressure pod) the light "glows" when the ignition key is turned to on. The others do not. But when you pull the lights switch to on, they all (4) come on bright.

I'm thinking that I must have a short some where in maybe a ground. But I don't have any real wiring diagrams to go by. Does anyone have something like a wire layout for the console gages? Is there some sort "felt" washer that I'm missing?
When I put this all together, I just had a pile of parts and no instructions. But it seem like it should be pretty straight forward.

Oh, one more thing ... I also have a low fuel sensor warning in this. Could that maybe some issue.

I'm scratching my head ...

Thanks Eric. Good ref. material. I'll take look and see if I can't figure out what the heck is going on.

Kevin - The Temp sensor is the one with the "hat" as opposed to the "post" and nut type. I'm pretty certain that the "hat" like one that the temp gauge wire clips onto is for the console gauge.

As for the the bulb "glowing" issue ... I have more information on that. It's actually both bulbs going to the lower pods. I thought that is was just the one, but when I took it all out, I noticed the other bulb fell out of the socket. So it's really 2 of the four that "glow" on ignition on position. Then all four go Bright when the lights switch is pulled on.

Thanks Jim. Went through the sticky and there is some helpful stuff there.

I was wondering if anybody might have some like this below link - but only showing ALL the gauges and how they are wired. Note that one in the back (I beileve that's the temp gauge). It has what appears to be a huge resiter block under the connections.

OK - I believe I have number 1 above working now. But Number 2 ... The issue with the gauge cluster Pod lights is not going away. What I have done is jumped the ground from the top pod metal plate to the bottom pod metal plate. When I have the Ignition turned to the ON position, all four (4) gauge lights light up bright!! I am pretty certain that the console gauge lights should light up when the head light switch is pulled. When the car is off and the key out of the ignition and the head light switch is pulled, the dash lights and the console gauge lights all come on as they should.

So, I have no idea as to why the dang console gauge lights come on bright when the ignition key is turned to the ON position or when the car is started. I'm wiped out of ideas. below are some pictures as to how I have the console gauges wired up. I'm hoping that someone might be able to spot a wiring mistake. I know it's hard to see it all in the pics, but it's sort of my last resort. Do the insulators look OK? Also, there is a low fuel sensor in there too!
Thanks.

Did your original console have gauges? Is your new wiring harness a conversion harness from American Auto Wire?

If you didn't have gauges and installed a conversion harness I might have something to check. I just installed a conversion harness from AAW and I have the same issue. Gauge lights come on with ignition switch and not headlight switch. Didn't seem right to me. After taking a close look at the wiring diagram I realized that the gray wire from the conversion harness that plugs into the front of the fuse panel is plugged into and ignition switched terminal. The funny thing is that the connector supplied on the gray wire will only fit into that connection point. It is keyed and will only go into that one. I called AAW and they said it should come on with the head lights and that there wiring was correct. Don't know how that could be. Moving the gray wire at the fuse panel to the ISP connector and not the IGN connector will solve the problem. The only problem is you will need to remove the plastic housing around the wire connector to get it in the ISP slot.

Mine is a 68 but your issue sounds exactly the same. If my assumptions listed at the start were not correct then this might not help.

Murph - Thanks for the heads up on this one. I'll check to see if the issues you had with adding gauges applies to me. I'll try/look for anything at this point! Appreciate you taking the time to reach out.
