Sorry for your loss, I wonder the connection between the block and your dad. Most of these engines and the cars that came with them went to race car drivers. I hope you realize that block is really special. If you don’t need the cash will only keep going up in value. Again, I wonder how your dad ended up with one. I would buy a piece of glass and turn it into a coffee table, extremely cool

First, have you looked for a partial VIN stamped down by the oil filter area? Here is some guidance: 1967-69 Camaro Drivetrain Decoding
The car that it belongs to may still be around. The block is worth more to the owner of that car than anyone else. It would be really cool if you could help reunite engine and car.
I would think just the bare block would be worth at least $15k to the owner of the car in came in. If I owned the car it came in, I would pay at least that for the original block.

If the car is gone, it still has significant value.

If the car is no longer around (some were crushed after being raced and beat for years), and if I were you I would EITHER put it on ebay or, if you aren't in a hurry (and I am guessing you are not, as you have been sitting on it for a year) then Bring a Trailer is bringing top dollar for unusual items these days. I would not be surprised to see it bring in excess of $15k.

What part of the country are you in?

 

There is a guy that sells classic parts, has 3 zl1 blocks. All with no damage. 13 k each.
Condition plays a big part in price. Cracks, bore etc. Lot of variables. At 13 k he still has not sold them.
