First, have you looked for a partial VIN stamped down by the oil filter area? Here is some guidance:

The car that it belongs to may still be around. The block is worth more to the owner of that car than anyone else. It would be really cool if you could help reunite engine and car.
I would think just the bare block would be worth at least $15k to the owner of the car in came in. If I owned the car it came in, I would pay at least that for the original block.
If the car is gone, it still has significant value.
If the car is no longer around (some were crushed after being raced and beat for years), and if I were you I would EITHER put it on ebay or, if you aren't in a hurry (and I am guessing you are not, as you have been sitting on it for a year) then Bring a Trailer is bringing top dollar for unusual items these days. I would not be surprised to see it bring in excess of $15k.
