327 to 383 Engine Mounts

Ok guys I have done some searches on this and can't really find what I am looking for. I am converting my 1967 from the original 275 HP 327 to a ground shaking 450 HP 383. I have a muncie wide ratio with a 8.5 10 Bolt with 3.42 gears so I am ready to get the thing installed and feel the difference. Anyway here is my problem. The 327 still has the old style engine mounts from what I have read they would separate and cause all kinds of problems, so GM ended up just putting a metal cable around them to keep them from torquing. So when the new engine comes in I want to convert to the newer style of mounts with as less hassle as possible. I have read that the 327 and the 350 blocks from back then had different engine mounts???? I can't understand being that they are the same block but thats what I read. Anyway what am I going to have to change both the engine mount that goes to the engine, and the engine mount that goes to the subframe. And when I make this change is everything still going to line up with tranny mount and clearance with my balancer over the sway bar??? If someone has done this converstion please give me some pointers and what parts I need to buy (with part numbers please) and what I need to buy. This should be an easy swap I would think, just trying to figure everything out before hand.

The reason the 302/350 had different frame mounts was because they had an 8" harmonic balancer which required a little more room by the "stock" swaybar.

If you have a larger than stock sway bar you will have to shim the bar down with whichever mount you have. (Use a piece of 1/2" plate between the frame and the mount.)

The 307/327 engine mounts were considered "low performance" and not changed to interlocking mounts like the 302/350 and 396 engines.

I don't know if the 307/327 mounts were ever changed to interlocking or not. I know the Energy Suspension 327 mounts ARE interlocking.

The easiest and cheapest thing to do is just get the Anchor 2283 motor mounts for a '67 327 (almost every part store carries these) and make some spacers for the sway bar. All mounts other than solid are interlocking now.

Your 383 will most likely come with an 8" balancer unless you ask for a 6-3/4" one (which would clear without spacers). If it comes with an 8" balancer, just make some spacers to drop the sway bar down to clear it if necessary. If you run a fat enough aftermarket sway bar, you have to do that with an 8" balancer regardless of what motor mount setup you use anyway.

Hey guys thanks for all of the help. What I have found are these mounts from Energy Suspension:

Are these what I am going to need?

I am using a larger OD than stock an 1-1/8" diameter Sway bar and the 383 does have an 8" balancer.

I read something interesting that David Pozzi posted. The gist of it is that the overall height of either frame/mount combo is the same. He also said that an 8" balancer would clear a 1" sway bar even with the low performance (short/wide) mounts. He went on to say that the reason that the high po engines had the narrow/tall mounts was mainly because the interlocking mount they designed was thicker (taller), so the frame stand was made shorter to keep the engine in the same place.

If that makes sense, it sounds like you'll be fine with those mounts you linked but I'm pretty sure you'll have to make the spacers to get the balancer to clear the sway bar. My bar is over an inch and I needed the spacers with the 302/350 mounts.

That has certainly been my experience. 307/327 "no po" mounts and the 8" balancer cleared the stock swaybar easily. It clears the 1 1/8" Hotchkis bar easily as well. No spacers needed. It's also possible that some of the aftermarket bars have a deeper "dip" in the center.

The goofy frame/engine mount stuff only applies to 1969 Camaros, your car is a '67.

I have a '67 and use the regular Energy Suspension mounts with a 8" balancer and a 1 inch sway bar (there's plenty of room for an additional 1/16" of clearance).

Use your existing frame mounts and just get modern engine mounts of your choice.

Thanks guys for all the great advice. I will just get the motor mounts from summit that will match my towers on the car and after talking with yall I think they will work. At the most I will have to shim my sway bar down a little. Thanks guys.
