I'm installing Autometer gauges in my '68'vert.
This includes a 5" speedometer and 5" tach.
It slips right into the original dash panel.
....but now I don't have idiot lights or blinkers in my dash.

I know some of you have done this.
What have you done to replace your blinkers and idiot lights?

I've found a few pics from TC members, but can't see the blinker solution.

buy mini LED's and drill them into the top or outside edge of the gauge tunnel. Then just wire them up. I used green because turn signal lights are always green. Plus my warning light is red and my new shift light is amber.

hey Tony, if you look closely at the pics youll notice little green lites in or around the gauges.

Thanks guys..

JimM - I didn't see any "dash" pics on your website, but would love to see your results with bulbs. Did you put in any warning lights?

HarleyD - I would love to see some "After" pics, if available. Are you using 3mm, 5mm, 8mm LED's? ..and you mentioned "Red" warning lights. Where did you mount the Red LEDs?

The second one is mine, I don't know how you got Importkillers69SS.

The green blinker LEDs are visable near the bottom.

sorry about that Don.. and thanks for setting me straight.
I did NOT see your green light hiding in the corners.. very subtle, very nice..

Did you eliminate the red idiot lights? (or are they hiding too?)
I've been toying with the idea of a different back-light to my gauges, but you've given me new ideas..
I didn't even think of using those corners..

Thanks for posting!

Here's mine.

I used the stock speedo (with it's turn indicator and idiot lights) but installed a tic toc tach in place of the fuel guage. The tic toc has a turn indicator, but no idiot lights. I wanted to keep the idiot lights, so I used 2 red radio shack 12v miniature lamps for the GEN and TEMP. They go right into a quarter inch hole. I believe they have them in amber and green as well as red.

No problem Tony.

I did get rid of the red warning lamps. I'm just running the high beam indicator in the stock location using a blue LED.

I like the blinkers where I have them in the bottom corners of the carrier.

They are more visable than they may look there, and I can service them from the bottom with no disassembly.

I have mine mounted in the 12 o'clock position inside the bezel just in front of the gauges (similiar to JimM). I also used the "built in resistor LED's" from radio shack. During the day that aren't as visible as I would like them to be, but at night it isn't a problem. If you use these (ones from radio shack) I would recommend to mount them to face you. They aren't too bright to be annoying. I am getting ready to convert to a Covan's dash and probably going with a different type of led for better visibility.

I put my LEDs at the 12 o'clock position inside the guage housing as well.

I used 12V lights from Radio shack. Very easy. Glad you like them.
