I have a 67 with side marker lights in the front fenders and rear quarter panels. But it still has the factory lead welds in the quarters, and you can obviously see the holes have stamped out not cut with a saw. How can this be possible?

where is the vin # at? In the dash 68...on the door it's 67. If it's 67 you maker lights are bogus....plain and simple all there is too it some one put them in no ifs ands or buts.

Vin is in the door jam. I really think they are factory. It was built 4th week of june in 67. So is it possible that it could has been mistake for a 68. I heard from a guy that worked at the Norwood plant that during the change in years the cars would come in sets of 50 down line. Change of production started in july, right?

My 68 had none when i got it. Just whatever was around at the time i guess.

Its more than just the holes. Hows the wiring look? 67 harness had no provisions for the markers and the fuse box connection is different.

The 6th digit on your VIN tag should be a "7" for the 1967 model year. Is that what you've got?

If yes, then I recommend checking the partial VIN stamp on top of the cowl to be sure that it matches the VIN tag on the hinge pillar. Here's where the partial VIN stamp is located:

If the partial VIN on the cowl does not match the VIN tag, then the body shell (or the whole car) might have started life as a 1968 Camaro.

Wiring looks original, and the lenses on the lights are stamped 68 so i know they are most likely factory gm lights
Adam, lenses can be purchased today with the stamped 68 or were not that long ago. Did you recently purchase the car or know of its history.

I bought a 68 once about 10 years ago. Great looking car! No rust solid body and was all there. After getting it home I noticed the emblem holes on the trunk lid were for a 67. Noticed the tail lights were a 67. Then upon digging further. The car had been clipped. 67 welded on to a 68. Not saying this is your car but lots of things happened to them in their lifetime. Did you buy it new.

Just out of curiosity what does it have for taillight housings 67 or 68? You can also find the VIN at the rear of the car. As for 1/4's I changed one along with the rear window tulip panel and you would be pressed to even tell they were changed accept for 1/4 being aftermarket vs an NOS. If an NOS 1/4 was used you would never know, the work was done so well.

It would be very easy for an experienced body/metal man/woman to cut the holes in a 67 for the side markers. As for it being a 68 body....could be a but the door hinges mount differently on a 67 vs a 68. A possible give away here here could be the dash pad because the 68 pad goes down the side of outer part of the dash and has mounting holes at the bottom for the pad. If it has a 67 pad I'll bet those holes were filled and not smoothed in the back. These is also the vent in the door jamb for a 68 and the dash knob trim is different from 67 to 68. The glove box in 67 did not have the "Camaro" script emblem and 68 did. Unless it was an A/C car 67 would not have vents in the dash, only the kick panels.

Also the wiper motor hole is different on a 67 vs a 68. All places to look to see what it started life as. It could have also had a safety conscious owner that wanted them at some point or possibly they may have been a requirement to import the car to someplace or a province. Maybe to satisfy an inspection after a lost title or rebuild after a wreck??

My 67 had the same thing. I am the 2nd owner, original owner worked at the Van Nuys plant, and when he saw the 68 marker lights he had to have them for the 67. He said he took some damaged fenders cut the light housings out and welded them in, then installed factory lights and tapped electrical in with the factory wiring. When I had the car painted I removed the lights and welded up the holes.
