Anybody know what colors made up the multi-color stripe that got discontinued before it ever made it to production.

My assembly manual shows the stripe and all but no mention of what color(s) were going to be used. Just curious to know, thanks in advance.

RPO D88 4 section bumblebee nose stripe. Yellow closest to the grille, then orange, then an orangish red color, then a red stripe closest to the hood. First two stripes are narrow, probably 1/2" to 3/4" then the last two are much wider, the third stripe about 2" and the last one about 1 1/2".

Got a picture of one on a loaded Maroon convertible with white interior, alledgedly one of a batch of special show cars made that had the stripes.

Don't know if other color cars would have had different colors within the stripe. Those colors would look pretty weird on a white car.

Holy cow. 18yrs into first gen camaro's and this is the first time I heard of the multi color stripe..... Man I love this site!

You da man. This is great info!

I don't think the stripe actually existed. This specific car is supposed to be one of 100 that was built on the GM show car account and is a late 68 car built somewhere around the end of April 68. For what purpose I don't know, it was delivered to NY and now resides in CA. It is an L34/M40 car with alledgedly 30 options on it including C06, C07, C60, D55, D80, J50/52, L34, M40, N33, N34, N40, U17, U46, U57, U79, V31, V32, Z22, Z27, Z87, ZJ7, probably power windows, and tinted glass as well as a few more minor options. Story is that it was one of 100 cars built this way and is one of 4 remaining. We all know how these numbers are arrived at, but that's the story. Supposedly the car also contains numerous 1969 pieces even though the car is 100 percent original with only something like 10K miles on it. This batch of cars if the others still exist are most likely the only ones out there with the D88 option.

Hey Mark- Was'nt there a version of that stripe but, had differing hues of blue/purple? I believe I saw this option in the Camaro White Book. That would look pretty cool.

Don't know, this is the only car I've ever seen with this style stripe. But there must have been some kind of a plan that would have indicated what colors were used on different colors of cars. This yellow to red one would work on a Maroon car, maybe a black car, but probably not on a blue or green car. Probably the reason why it never made it to production, it would have taken quite a while to figure out the correct colors to use, then layout and paint them. If it was a tape stripe instead of painted it might have been produced.

I saw a car like this once on 75 south heading into downtown Dallas. I saw it in the early 80's & the paint looked original because it was in pretty bad shape. It was a white hard top camaro. It really got my attention because it had a faded multi-stripe nose paint job that looked like it had to be an old (original?) paint job. As best I remember, it was made up of light blue, red & yellow & some other color. All the paint was very faded. I only got a short look, as I was on my way to work in fast moving traffic.

all I can say is yuck I am glad that they didn't make that stripe production

In the factory 68 service manual, they even show the stripe layout for the multicolor nose stripe. Of course the sheet was cancelled before production. my 68 was one of those who had the vette bronze with that multicolor stripe on it.

I saw this car listed above at the SILVER (Fort McDowell site) auction this past weekend.
Loaded Convt.
Dead batteries in the Digi- camera no photos, It might be listed in the sites car listing?
