did all firewalls come with the stamped speedo cable hole on the passanger side of the steering column to accept the speedo cable for the Muncie 4 speed which would have come standard in the 68 SS model? thanks for any info trying to confirm SS status on car without original motor. :beers:

Auto car's speedo exited through the firewall on the driver side of the column. There was a locator dimple on the passenger side of all firewalls, regardless of model, but only the Muncie cars got the punch out.

thanks for the info so if it is a factory punch out it is a true Muncie car which makes since the Muncie if the car #match vin # but what was confusing me was that the speedo cable goes through the driver side of the firewall I assume that when the previos owner did the resto he ran the cable through the wrong hole where should the oil pressure line go through the firewall for console gauge, cause it goes through the Muncie hole now which I guess is incorrect. also were the muncies only available in the SS models, I don't have the original motor and am trying to confirm that the car was a true SS.

thanks, do you now where the oil pressure line went through the firewall, right now it is going through the Muncie hole which I assume is incorrect. Also did only the SS models receive the Muncie 4 speed. Trying to confirm if car is a true SS without having the original motor to confirm. and yes the tranny #s match the vin #.. thanks again for any info

If the tranny number matches the vin and it is an orig vin and is an orig muncie 4sp trans then it is an ss. Non SS cars that got a 4spd got a saginaw 4 spd.

Here is a photo of the firewall showing the holes around the area you are asking about......

The only exception I can think of to this is that it could also have been a Z-28 as they received only Muncie transmissions as well. I don't believe the SS models came with M-21 so if it's a numbers/VIN matching M-20 then it sure sounds like an SS car.

Is this firewall 68 model year only or do the same holes apply to the 67 and 69 as well?

thanks everyone for your info, this with all the other research I have done I believe I can say with good conscience that it is a true SS. Now I just gotta find the motor.
