69 4 speed speedometer cable clips?

Can someone tell me how many speedometer cable clips were used from the factory on 1969 4-speed Camaros? I heard any where from one to three. Which is correct? If any one can post some pictures of the location where they are suppost to be mounted that would be great. I am converting an automatic to 4 speed. I will be using a new hole on the passenger side of the firewall for routing the cable. Also, is there a source where I can get factory style clips (not the after market ones that doesn't have the spreaders). Thanks.

Standard manual transmissions used only 1 clip, GM#3935970. See UPC 12-C3. Illistration clearly shows left side speedo cable entry into transmission housing.

However, heavy duty transmissions which have a the speedo cable entering on the right side (RPO L34-L35-L48-L78-LM1) used 3 clips GM# 3772324. See UPC M20-A9.
These clips should now be available through www.amkproducts.com part # B-10320 at $8 each.

here is a 1968 muncie car.. i think there the same....the first pic shows the upper clip where the cable exits the firewall.. the second pic is the clip in the trans tunnel......

The above pictures is not how 69's are. The cable clip is more down in the top of the tunnel and there is only one. Maybe I'm missing one?

The picture also shows the Muncie speedometer hole that everyone asks about in here often. It is the larger hole at the top center of the picture. Below that hole is the hole for the accelerator pedal. This is a 69 Camaro 350/300hp car. I am not aware that the big block are different.

so the first clip on both 68 and 69 are in the same location...
the second lower clip are in different locations between 68 and 69 then.....

Thanks for all the replys. Base on all this information, I think the correct number is three clips. I have an original four speed Nova and it has three clips in the same location. I'm sure they use the same setup on both the Camaros and Novas. The one question that I still need answered to is; are the original clips still available? I have a reproduction one that I bought from Classic Industries and it's very different than the original. Thanks.

Mine is going to throw a monkey wrench in this. I have one clip where wagonman's is and one farther down like the 69 in Mike's pic. I might have one lower down too, but the top two are definite and original. Mike, there's a small hole next to your speedo hole that looks like where wagonman's and my clips are that you don't have. I don't know about 69's but that hole is for something?

Okay, so I guess I am missing the top clip by the speedo hole. I never knew that. I dont like the repo clips as they are not the same.

Where does the lower clip go, if there is one.

The bottom line is that clip is not made like the factory clip was. The clip was retained by pinching the two legs from above the clip and that spread the legs (no pun intended) below the clip behind the sheet metal. JohnZ discussed this some time ago.

JohnZ said the original clips were pinched from the top to spread the legs behind the firewall. The repro clips do not work nor are they made the same as the originals. I guess if the body is stripped down they can be spread from behind.

The original speedo cable clips are secured by squeezing the two little short tabs together (from underneath the car, not inside it) with duckbill pliers - that spreads the two legs INSIDE the car; same concept as the clip that holds the two heater hoses to the passenger side inner fender.

'69 Muncie 4-speeds had three clips, all the same part; all are shown in the M20 section of the assembly manual, on sheet A9.

I sure hope someone makes a decent clip, the ones I bought from Ricks and D&R were both TERRIBLE as far as correctness, heck they don't even serve the purpose they are designed for without rebending and shaping the clip.
I ended up making a small die from a 3/8 steel rod which I filed until the profile was correct and an anvil from a piece of heavy wall steel tube which I split lengthwise in half in order to get the depth in the "hook" to actually hold the cable.

To get the remainder correct I used a flat file to narrow them as the width of the repros is also too wide.

Looks like totally different clips and both original......Per Aim and John Z they should be the same......any thoughts? Not trying to take anything away from these cars integrity...... I know a lot of things happened on the assembly line (just to confuse us) just trying to get this a little clearer for myself....... these cars were built a week apart.......

On ebay here

Many vendors carry them they are not cheap.....above link looks like the best deal and I would think you can combine shipping for your need........
