I just bench tested an orginal AM radio using a battery charger and the original dash speaker (10 ohms). The radio tuned to stations, but the hum coming from the speaker was very loud. Any idea why the radio is producing so much hum? I was expecting clear sound.

The battery charger, Try just a battery, The charger uses a ac nonclean voltage,

True, technically, it is a DC voltage with alot of AC ripple from the battery charger.

I hooked the radio up to a battery and it worked like a champ!
