Is there a way to tell from the VIN sequence number on a 69 pace car which one it is of the 3,675 produced? Not that it really matters, just wondering. Are the first and last pace car VIN numbers known?

There's at least one that has an earlier VIN than the #1 "real" pace car. It's only 40 VIN numbers lower and it was a festival car used at the race. Don't know if it's the earliest one or not. Don't know about the last one, but I have seen one 05C built Z11 in the past. But there is no list of all 3675 of them anywhere, unless it's buried in GM records somewhere.

I compiled a list of 72 1969 Pace Car serial numbers and options in the middle, late 70's

earliest N is 609227
latest N is 642309
earliest L is 526352
latest L is 529244

Items of interest from my list:
L527436 was 1st sold 1-3-70
L529244 was 1st registered 4-23-70
N615195 was reported to be a JL-8 car with a/c, cruise, auto and L48
N624460 was just a cowl back rusty body I rescued from a junkyard near Luke Air Force Base, AZ in 1977
N618475 was a L78 (only one noted)
N619545 was a column shift auto w/tilt
N632947 WAS a column shift, I converted it to console
N622383 WAS a small block, it is now a L34 4-speed
N616235 (cover car ChevroLand Nues) donated it's engine to the one above, it is now a L78

3 were reported to have shoulder harness (I added it to N616235)
6 were reported to have the Endura bumper

closest serial numbers were 20 apart

I've got images of an L48/M38 Pacecar off of Ebay with a VIN of N607547, which I believe is probably the first pace car built, as the VIN is lower than the "real" pace car's VINs. Highest Norwood VIN I know of is above N643730. Highest recorded car at Indy was N610726.

Two of the Festival cars at Indy have seqeuntial serial numbers, N609881, N609882, then theres one more festival car 5 away from those two (N609887). Theres a batch of 7 festival cars that are spaced 5 VIN numbers apart each other.

I also know of an LA built car with a VIN below L526250 and one above L5303xx.

Besides the one L78 noted above I know of 5 others, all Norwood built cars. There are 3 L89's that I know of out there, including the 2 "real" pace cars.

L526248 is a pace car last seen in Australia. It's the earliest VIN I have for VanNuys built 3A.

L529333 is the latest I have and last seen in California, built 4B

Just found this board while searching for info on Z-11's. I just bought two Z-11s which were in storage for years. Would like add'l info if anyone can supply any registry data, etc. My two have VIN's with 925 seperation. Are there any sites exclusively for Z11's?
Check out camaropacecars.com. It's no only Z11, but it's only Camaro pace cars. A good site for Z11 info.

Re: 69 pace car VIN sequence

The earliest I have is 608717

I have a decent list of Z11's I have been keeping. If anyone else has one and wants to share, I would like to do that. Who knows, we may be able to get a decent list going and record most of the Pace Cars. That would be great. I have a Pace Car myself and is why I got interested in this. I also have shoulder belts, but from what I hear, that may not be that rare on a pace car.

Friend of mine restored an all option Z-11 that she owned for many years and I think the original owner and had GM replacement parts including the interior that "rotted" in the box. He did a full frame off resto. When I saw the car I was impressed as it was almost finished. BB of course, Endura, Fiber optics, liquid chain, PW, AC were some of the rare options that I noticed.
