I had my fenders replaced and I am missing the neg wire screw hole and the hole the wiring harness clip goes in for the alt on the pass fender near the front. Any pics from ORIGINAL fender and measurements would be great. I have to drill some holes in the brand new paint :eek:

Photo below is my untouched original '69. If you measure back from the centerline of the rearmost of the two vertical bolts that attach the fender to the radiator support, the ground wire screw hole is at 10-3/16". The hole in the lower flange for the wire harness clip is 8-1/4" from the same point, and its location is well-defined - the trim edge of the fender reinforcement bulges out around the hole.

:beers:

Kevin, I know this is the restoration corner, but when I was a kid I removed the ground from the block, forgot it was off and fried that wire. I eliminated it for that reason. After all, why have it???? Except originality, of course.

And mine worked well without it because it had a radio. Didn't most first gens have one? That meant they got these ground straps too;
See the ground strap?

Another, of several.

You have to believe that additional grounds were necessary in order to keep everything electrically happy. In theory, yeah, everything is bolted to each other therefore, continuity, but if they went thru the trouble of putting all of those grounds in, there had to be a good reason. Look at how many times many issues are simply bad grounds.

:yes: And you should see the ground system on my sailboat. (all owner (me) installed)It even has a ground plate next to the prop outside the hull. That keeps the ham radio happy. The only time grounds are not good is when you hold a bare AC wire.:eek: (the 60 Hz shuffle) Grounds are even good to prevent lightening strikes on sailboats. Ask me how I know!

you cant ever have too many grounds! -I've heard of speedo cables melting due to lack of grounds
