OD has been available since mid ‘50’s.
Didn’t work w/performance cars then, poor performance choice now.

Jurassic Park remark might well come back to haunt you unless in an effort to stay up w/Elon Musk, you change gas-tank for a battery pack. 😁
LOL.

It's not hard to install hideaway headlights. Buy a kit, and go electric. 👍

I suppose it's about what performance means to you. For me, it's the feeling of a winding country road, and for some it's a 10 second straight line blast.
BTW a stock "modern" manual is capable of handling more torque than a stock M21 and probably at least equal to a stock M22.

Hey All,

I come from the Subaru world and am 38 yrs old and living in Florida. I have had the itch to buy a gen 1 camaro for quite some time and have the financial capacity to make it a reality now.

I really enjoy the rs style front ends of the 69 and this is the car I have a deposit on right now.

I have a mechanic scheduled to take a good look at her next Tuesday. My plan is an occasional drive to work fun car which is about 5 miles away on surface streets. Also the occasional out to dinner with the wife car.

The mechanic mentioned to see if it has a choppy idle, maybe indicating an aggressive cam thay likely wouldn't be to great for just cruising around. I definitely want a bit of bite but also something that won't annoy the wife too much.

No power steering and brakes are whatever to start and I kind of like the idea of that feel in the beginning but will likely add power brakes and possibly steering in short order.

I welcome any comments or concerns from the community and look forward to digging through the site to up my knowledge and continue on the hobby that is 1st gen Camaros!

Best,

Matt
For 55K you would think they would at least fix the headlight doors. You know buying from a dealer you are paying way too much particularly for a "tribute".

The six speeds in the ZL1 Camaro and the Hellcat are rated at 650 ft. lbs.

I buy quality cars and one that has value if and when I sell as I have never lost money on a Camaro. The more you add to the car the more to lose on the back end, plan, budget, price check and determine if shocks need to be $30 or $185 each and so on and so forth. The buyers for original equipped cars has a larger audience and in the 35 to 55 range. If you want a LS with all the modern stuff, get a Vette or 5 or 6 Gen.car. We built a LS car from a wrecked C-6 for $7k and harvested a ton of parts from drive train to interior and sold out the rest for 3K and a 427 to boot!!!!

I think each of us should build our cars as we want them. You do you, I'll do me.

My car is an SS396 but it did not come with the RS package *Hidaway Headlights". I purchased the electric kit. I think it was about $1200. I installed it. Wasn't that hard, but could still use a little tweeking.

Streetside Classics

1st the Dark Blue 69.

BBC car X44. The paint is shiney although lots of fisheyes in the clear. No PS No PB. Deluxe interior in good condition.

Dust flap on one side. Ripped off on other side. Missing horn and engine detail poor quality IMO

judge these issues as you will.

My conclusion is the 3 Cars are not absolutely terrible and with a little work could make nice drivers. All have paint issues and perhaps underlying body/rust issues.

I did not start or drive any of them so a complete mechanical inspection would be needed if someone was actually considering a purchase.

Bottom line all IMHO are $15k or more overpriced. Same as all Classic Dealers.

There were a few nice cars way over priced $85k to $120.

To me the biggest joke was the yellow COPO. Tribute priced at $170,000.

Last pic is my C7ZO6 ZO7 Vette in their parking lot.

Thanks for the report!!

So if I could get them to come down a decent amount considering an inspection goes well, say to 45k. On the dark blue, Then dump about 10k on PS, PB new exhaust plus some other tidbits. Would it be not the worst deal in the world?
