Hi guys, I have removed the rear axle from a parts car I bought. The guy told me it was from a 68rs. It is a 10 bolt posi with what I think is a 2.73 ratio as per the rotation. I would like to know for sure if it's for a Camaro so I know how to advertise it. The only numbers I can read are cast into the bottom-front of the flange. They are GM 72 on passenger side and 3969340NF on the drivers side. I can't read/see any stamping. Thank you.

Steve,

The 3969340NF casting was an 8.2 10 bolt used in early 70's Nova's. Compare your housing with the pictures on the NOVA AXLE SITE and it should narrow it down a bit. Also check for the casting date code as shown in THIS LINK. We should be able to get you in the ballpark from there.

Thank you for the links Ed, they were very helpful. All info points to a 68 PX2.73 posi. Thanks CDJr, I knew that location from my 69z but this housing is too pitted to find any stamping. Now get out of the house and drive you're cars. Have a good day!
