After 3 1/2 years of tearing the car apart and welding on new panels in my garage, the car finally made it out to paint. I never thought I’d see the day. I wanted to thank everyone on Team Camaro for all the help and guidance. I learned a whole lot from hanging with ya’s online and reading posts till my eyes crossed. When I got the car 3 years ago I had taken on a big project and had just about zero experience. With the help of a great neighbor and people on this site, I think I did ok. I wanted to take the car to a great restoration shop here in NJ to get painted(CurtisMotion Restorations) but my job security and other issues wouldn’t give me that opportunity. I ended up working out a deal with the shop that did my cousins Chevelle convertible. I am very happy but I still have a long way to go before its on the road. Heres a couple pics while at the shop. It wasn’t all together yet and the pics are a little dark but you can get the idea. Now comes the fun part...re assembly :) I just wanted to say thanks again for all the help over the years. You all are great!

Gary - Looks great. Since the front is sitting a little high, I assume you had it painted without the engine in. I am getting close to this part of my restoration and I have been trying to decide if I want to put the engine in before or after paint. I have heard good arguments both ways. What made you choose to have it painted without the engine?

Daral..yeah my big block is sitting on the stand. I debated and decided to drop the motor in after paint because I believe even if I wrapped it up good something would have happened to it. Its pretty dusty and these guys werent the neatest workers. I broke the engine in, in the car and took it out easily. It shouldnt be an issue...I hope. I have a home lift that makes it easy. I just drop the engine straigt down in and then while up on the lift I slide the 4spd trans in and bolt it up. Thanks!

Thanks Jeff...yeah I remember asking you down at E-town if you would do it over again and paint it black and you hesitated for a sec and said...na :) I love the black look..it just reminds me of highschool days when everyone had a car and alot of them were that "mean" looking black. I changed my mind on color 346 or so times before just saying what the heck...and there it is. Yeah it will be a never ending battle to keep it clean but I'm used to doing battle with this car :)

Thanks!

Hey David..thanks. I am just drooling wanting to drive the car. In the 3+ years I have owned it I have never driven it. Bought it with all the brakes seized and just started my resto-mod a week after it was in my driveway. I dont think it will be done by spring but hopefully by summer. I still have alot to do but whats left to do is way better work than cutting out rust and welding in all new panels. When I do get it on the road and its dependable, I plan on having fun and making as many cruzin's as possible. Thanks!

Update...I just looked at your car. Man thats bad ***. I bet you cant wait you cruise. I do have almost everything to get it all back together its just finding the time.

I know its been a year and still haven’t finished assembly of the car since I got it back from paint but I came a pretty long way doing everything by myself and finding the time (kids…). If I had more money and better weather (freezing) it would have been done by now. I figured I’d post some updated shots. It will be on the road this spring (I hope). Geezz the small stuff adds up and takes time to install, especially around new paint. New winshield back and front, all trim sent out and polished, new RS light motors and electric, grille, newrocker moldings, taillights, front turnlights housings, all wiring, fatmat sound deadening, new carpet, gastank, electric fuelpump, stainless brakelines and fuel lines, new TKO600 tranny, drop in big block, new Jet Hot Hooker Headers, new tires and old school cragars SST rims..etc. Now that I’m typing… I did spend a lot and did a decent amount of work over the summer but it seems like it never ends…does it?
