Re: barn find 69 z28

Dennis, I see you found it before I had a chance to get back to you. That is awesome, that is an expensive item if you had to find one that is original, like in the $1500-$2000 dollar range. Take a million pictures and restore this gem, just my opinion.

Take care,
Jerry K.

Re: barn find 69 z28

I found some BLACK battery cables in the trunk. I assume the RED ones aren't factory. Do you know?? Dennis.
OE cables are black and have spring clamps on them.

Re: barn find 69 z28

This is the automotive equivalent of finding a lost Mayan tomb!!!!!

Nothing gets this board more excited than a good old fashioned barn find!!!!

And I bet there are more of them awaiting discovery......muhahaha, muhahaha, muhahaha

Do you have side post battery cables? (They are the ones that have a solid chunk of rubber on the end (looks almost like a Heim joint) with the "little" 1/4" or 5/16" headed bolt in it)
Please post photos with pics of the part numbers if possible... the change over from Top post to side post batteries was late April or Early May... your car is a 05A and may help narrow down the change...

The ones on the middle are Spring rings cables. You put a pair of pliers on each side of the metal spring and open then up. Place them on the battery and they close in place.

My orginal 69 Z came with side post battery.

Re: barn find 69 z28

I would say a big yes on that. A lot of people have the misconception that they only came with top post batteries, but I had a late car that had the side posts as well.
I know for sure because I left my lights on the first night I drove it to work. When I went to boost it I had never seen a side post battery. That was in 1969.

Re: barn find 69 z28

The mileage is what thought was correct when I bought it. Knowing the history of the car told by his relitives. I questioned it had all the correct parts, or that it had parts robbed from it all those years it sat. He lived and worked on the family farm in a town of about 1900. Nice car and no place to go.

Re: barn find 69 z28

I have to say I would tend to believe the mileage is correct based on what we have seen. Sometimes looking at the wear on the shifter pedal and brake pedal can tell a little of the story. I've noticed that the valve covers appear to have been flip flopped, usually the oil filler cap is on the driver's side, not sure if that is a hard and fast rule though. Dennis if you do happen to remove a valve cover look for the absense of drippers on the inside, I'm fairly sure that correct ones would not have the drippers. Mine look correct but they are of a later vintage and have drippers. Also here is a site you might find interesting, Ken Lucas's restoration site http://lucas-restorations.com/default.aspx I'm sure there are alot of folks on here that are familiar with Ken's work and the best thing is that Ken is one of the nicest guys you could hope to meet, but the pictures are execellent for reference sake.
