Hope this post is in right area, I'll try to keep long story short. I just returned from visiting family in the midwest, while there talked with a friend who knew a guy that had some cars in a field, we've all heard that before, managed to get ahold of the owner who invited me down for a look, found a 67 rs,68 coupe, nothing fancy, a hugger orange 69 and what looks like a 69 rs, all projects needing everything. Then guy takes me to an old barn and buried back in the corner is a 69z28, about 2 inches of dust on it,no engine in it everything else is there, 4 spd,12bolt,discs brakes, console with gauges, my crappy 35mm did not get a clear picture of tag, it is x77, paint 71, blue interior, has spoiler on rear, no D80 on tag, guy has had car since mid 70's, in another building is a correct DZ block all apart but it appears it is all there. sorry for long story but I havent been able to get this car out of my head for last 4 days. I do have a few pics of it covered in dust. My question is this, what would you pay for this car, I know every one is different in what they will pay, I made what i thought to be a reasonable offer, he did not turn it down, simply wants to think about it for awhile. No problem i told him, I did buy all 4 of the other cars though. thanks for input, again sorry for long winded post

im sorry i can't find where you put how much you paid. but hell either way you scored!! these cars have an amazing euphoria about them that makes you go farther than you ever thought possible just to dress them up and give'm a fancy night out on the town.

from what we saw last week of a rusted out big block shell here in minnesota that went for $9500, you were smart to grab them all. Tell the Mrs. its the best investment you could ever have made. I agree the Z if engine is original with partial VIN on it, easily $20k as is. The others, without pics, $5000 each to start but go up from there as they clean up and you see what is really good or bad about them.

Yes I have, it is not original to the car, he was up front about it, motor has been sitting for 20 years waiting to go in, I was able to check some numbers, proper casting, correct intake, carb, one thing I noticed was no vin stamp on engine pad, it has V0110DZ on pad only, does not look like it was decked or anything "funny" with the stamp..I'm aware not having original motor will affect value, just how much. he says rear end is original 3.73 and original trans, however he isnt sure which one it is, 1 picture I have the hood is up and you can see the trans so someone might recognize what it is, and if i'm able to get the car i'm not looking to flip it for a quick dollar, I come across many cars but this is by far the best one I've ever come across

lol..the wife is fine with all of it,just shakes her head, I'm going back down in a couple weeks to pick up the other projects and bring them back, i'm hoping he will have made a decision on it by then, oh ya just thought of something else, hood has been changed some fibreglass scoop on it, but beside the engine was a new GM cowl hood thats been sitting for 20 years, and he also has the proper air breather and parts for it

throzoo:

Check the engine for the partial VIN. Thats right around the time frame that the VIN was moved from the front pad to above the oil filter. I wouldnt think it would be too unlikely that it is the one for the car. Never know.

Being an X code tag, but with no D80, that would put the car in the Dec-May range.

Do you have the date on the trim tag?

Congrats on your find. Hope you can get the Z28. Those cars are still out there. A great new book to read is "The cobra in the barn" (Tom Cotter ISBN# 9780760319925) it is filled with stories like that.

A friend of mine just bought a 1960 Corvette he found out from a friend of a friend who talked to a barber, knew the son....etc. There it was in a barn, both tops, org. engine, nice car.....$12000.

I would prolly pee in my pants if I ran across something like that,,, You hit the jack pot. My guess if man had cars since 70's , most all is orginal including motor.
