Cam Swap in Car - with A/C ?

I have searched for an answer here but didn't find a complete one...

Can a cam swap be done with the motor in the car without disconnecting the A/C condensor ? but rather moving it somewhat out of the way enough to remove/replace the cam ? If at all possible, I really don't want to break open the A/C loop. It's a fully functional R134 system and I don't want to take a chance on it.

It's a '69 SS 350 auto with factory air, PS and PDB.

Thanks In Advance

Mark

I haven't tried it but it looks doubtful in my opinion when measuring a cam at 21 & 3/4" including the pin for the gear then eyeballing where the condensor sits. You could give it try I guess then if it looks like your going to risk damaging the condensor you could stop and pull it on out. I'd like to know how this turns out so please post back if you proceed.

You should be able to lower the condenser without to much difficulty if your hoses are both run under the core support (like they should be). Of course you will need to remove the hood latch and valance support bracket to do that, and you will probably have to unbolt the dryer from the inner fenderwell to get enough slack in that hose. Getting that bracket out (and back in) without bending a whole bunch of the fins on the condenser is a neat trick. I pulled my cam out without removing my grille, but it took just about every inch of space there was to do it you certainly can't do it with the conser there..

Didn't think of moving it down, that's a good idea. I was looking at moving it forward. Since his system is already R134a you can't help but think that it would be easier to do a recharge.
