Hello,

I have a 68 coupe that is getting close to paint and I'm eyeing the House of Kolor Galaxy Grey Metallic for the basecoat and am trying to figure out how many quarts I need to purchase for the recommended 3 coats. According to House of Kolor, the paint is reduced to a ratio of 2:1, if that makes a difference.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

That is a hard question to answer in most cases. Some paint covers better than others. I have painted whole cars with 3 quarts, inside and out, and have gone the other direction where i painted a 79 ford truck that took 2 gallons because the paint was so translucent. Plan on a gallon if you are painting dash as well. If you are planning on painting the engine bay or trunk interior, you may want 5 quarts.

It depends on how much of the vehicle you are painting as well. To do outside plus jambs, plus engine bay, underside of hood and inside trunk area I feel comfortable recommending one gallon + 1-2 quarts of our Charcoal Grey Metallic which is equivalent to the HOK Galaxy Grey Metallic. We generally recommend folks buy a little extra and then if customers don't use any unopened containers they can send it back for a refund. I think HOK only has that one in quarts so if you are set on the HOK then I would suggest 6 quarts to be safe.

I have sprayed some of the Galaxy Grey. It doesn't cover well at all. I was spraying it over a grey sealer at first but I think I ended up spraying it over something similar or black.. I can't recall as it's been a little while but I know you don't want to spray it over a grey unless you want to use a lot of material.
