I've never even seen E85 Paul. I live in BFE man.

We are going with 11cc domes, if they can take the shot, Find out Monday.

Yes Carl I got it. I have been emailing Mike all day and cleaning my heads to send him. Your PM is printed off and sitting here bugging me to reply. Gimme a couple minutes:)

wait so i'm lost...
You built the 412" you have had in your sig, and why did it not work?
I remember you saying something about it running?? I read the first post about main caps not fitting... Can you explain more?

I was putting my 412 back together, took it apart in September or October I think. This is not the first build on this engine. It had been running for 1 1/2 years and I took it apart because my oil was getting aerated by overunderfullness:)(new word:)) and/or lack of adequate windage, over pumpage, over viscositage maybe too also:D. On the previous build I had problems with main cap to block register fit on #3 and 4, and had it 4 bolted. It was a helluva sweet engine. This time when I was reassembling, the #4 main cap was sloppy in the block again. It's as though the block relaxes when I take it apart. The cap is supposed to be a good clean crisp tight fit into the block...the block "register" makes the cap sit where it is supposed to. And that has to be right or there's no need to proceed... and so I stopped. Dammit.

I no longer trust my block, and I've been just upset as hell about it for a week now. That was a sweet block and I have a ton in it. Carl thinks it's cracked. I can't find a crack, even with my glasses on and bright lights. I know it's screwed up somewhere but I can't find it. I'm not throwing it away. My buddy that 4-bolted it wants me to get it back to him to see what is screwed up. Maybe he can find the crack.

It's still sitting there on the stand sparklin like a diamond in a goat's ***. I'm gonna miss it.

On abrighter note, and like when a new puppy comes along..... Mike says my old cam is nowhere near big enough for my new engine. sheeeeeeeeet man that thing was huge to me.... 298/305 adv 265/272 at 50 and .673 net lift. If that's not big enough I wonder what big enough is?

Ya, I was wondering how your oil situation was coming along, almost posted asking about it, 'cause I was curious.......I remember that...:beers:

Oh I haven't give up on that old block Paul. Like I say it's still sitting there sparklin like a diamond in a goats ***.

Hi Arch glad to see you
Yeah the oil deal. My plan is to run a more mellow pump, the little piece of metal that keeps oil from creeping up the back of the block on launch, less oil of a lower viscosity. Also have a milodon diamond windage tray. Pan has trap door and a built in windage tray(may end up removing to run the diamond). Might do the crank scraper as well, not sure if I like it. Shotgun approach admittedly, but I can't have that recurr. I have to do some research on the Dart priority oiling system, I know a guy who knows a guy who claims it caused grief... devastating grief on a 1200HP small block. Lots of em running, ain't skeered, I can build it.

I have a friend running a blown 454 small block in his drag truck with no oiling problems , they oil the same as a big block chev . I'm running the dart block with my 427 and i'm building a blown 427 small block right now they are a great block . You won't go back to the GM stuff again .
Mark.

Correct, tight fit locates the cap.
Any signs of fretting between the cap & block?
Block or cap look shiny at the junction?

Hi Ev
It is not a virgin block:). Lots of people have been mean to this one:D.
The block was fretted on 2,3, and 4 when we did the 4-bolting on the previous build. My buddy said 4 was a major PITA to fit the cap, he called me up and offered to sell me another block at that time cuz he didn't like 4. I told him we'd run it if he thought it would run, knew my blocks problems were my problems and not his fault. And it felt OK at that time to me. Both of us felt it would run, and it did. Went into it with eyes wide open.
The 2-3-4 caps show no signs of movement against the split line. Hard to tell if there's been movement against the register, they are billet caps and he hand fitted them to the block. But 4 looks like probly yeah I'd say it mighta moved. Ahhh, you know how it is... it may be junk but it's my junk:)

Hi Mark
Nice to hear from somebody running the Dart block.
I refreshed my memory on the Dart priority oiling system last night, and I'm betting that guy did or didn't do something. I'll make a call this week and find out what kind of train wreck he had.
