Excellent information to know, and well noted. I love this site!

X77 is a base model Z/28. No front bumper guards, no drip rail trim, no deluxe interior, no trim on the taillights, no trim around the headlights, no hideaway headlights " RS style trim" , and no Z had AC till I think around 70 or 70 1/2 . That is when you could also get a auto trans.

I have always heard of the 70 .5 Camaro, even know a guy who claims to be the original owner of one. I have seen the car, but I cant tell you for certain what it is. I guess you would have to look on the title. I know a guy who claims to have a 64.5 Mustang as well. As far as a X77 with deluxe interior, That is a new one on me, never seen that before. Learn something every day.

Jack, you should post that trim tag on the number forum, so others can see it too.

X codes have nothing to do with interior trim levels. The X code told Fisher body if the car had "Style Trim" option or not. The Style trim option for Fisher body meant it got chrome on the drip rail, wheel opening mouldings, Chrome louvers on the quarter and chrome around the tail lights. the rest was installed by Chevrolet (everything in front of the firewall). NOt sure how the two plants determined the difference between style trim and Rally sport as they are grouped together in the X codes.

I think I have this book somewhere. I developed most of my camaro knowledge long before the internet was born. Ive got tons of books and I can even see the picture of the car in the part about the 69s sold as 70s. It might be "Camaro, Chevy's Classy Chassis" Ive got that one somewhere up in my closet. Remember books? Lol.

Guys that say there is no such thing as a 70 1/2 Camaro will never be swayed. It is just terminology. Guys that refer to it as a 70 1/2 Camaro will always believe it is. Again, it is just semantics.

BTW, regardless of which side you are on, it wasn't just the press that referred to it as the 70 1/2 model.... some GM publications did the same thing. So.. did GM have the right to call it a 70 1/2? It was their creation, after all.

Most people did not drive the 302 the way it was designed to run. The smog pump killed the engine too. With the smog pump off , and a 456 gear the 302 ran pretty dam good. That said a good built 350 " like the 70 Z 350 with the same 30 30 solid lift cam fan its nuts off to. The 302 was ok, but not all that for Joe blow who just drove the car on the street. I know many will be upset that I have said this, but it is just my observation on the subject.
