Aloha All,
I've seen a number of past post from members with Door Mirrors being to lose, even new ones shortly after installation some have suggested Super Glue, Lock Tite even using a punch to dimple the pivet ball well for me none have work out. The one suggestion to remove the mirror and tighten the metal strap was the solution that I felt would solve the problem for all of us so my plan was to contact the company that makes them and just ask a very simple question my e-mail to them listed below..

Aloha Mr. Riley and Mr. Johnston,

I'm contacting you to ask a question about your 1969 Camaro Door Mirrors, P/N: 684501-C, 684501 and 684502. Please note this is not a complaint about your product or any type of dissatisfaction with customer service. I have just completed a very long restoration of my 1969 Camaro and I'm having an issue with my Door Mirrors purchased well over 16 years ago as stated it was a very long restoration project. Well the mirrors were new when purchased and in a very short time they were lose and would not stay in position even after appling super glue on one attempt and lock tight on another attempt to fix the problem, both attempts did not work. I went on line to the Team Camaro Site, a team member showed how he removed the mirror from the mirror dish (my description) and on the back side of the mirror dish you could see the "Ball Strap" (my description) and two screws. The Team Camaro member stated he just tighten the screws and that fixed the problem. Well another member stated that they "Ball Strap" could also be welded, after removing my glass my set was also welded with no adjustment possible.

Gentlemen, I apologize for the long explanation I just wanted to explain in detail from the start and ask if a set of 69 Camaro Door Mirrors could be purchased not assembled, why you ask well I would like to drill and tap the post that holds the ball strap, this would allow the mirror dish to be tighten when it becomes lose. I would be willing to pay more to have you drill and tap them and also ship them with the mirror not glued in place.

Thank you for your time and I look forward to your response.

I called to ask this question over the phone and was told that there mirrors were welded and that they would not sell them apart so I thought I would send an e-mail to explain what my problem was.

This e-mail was sent on 08 Oct 2012, I have not received a response from them why? I would think all they would have to do is pull a LH and RH Mirror off of the production line. Please members let me know what you think are any of you still having this type problem with you Door Mirrors? I think it would be nice if we could make our own adjustments when needed with out haveing to buy a new set.
Thank you all for you time

I too had a floppy repro mirror, and I read the thread about the fix.

My mirror was threaded and the strap held on with screws. I soaked the glass off and tighend the screws and they stripped so easily I couldn't even get pissed. (pot aluminum) I priced another repro mirror and decided I didn't want to spend $40 on another piece of junk, so I drilled all of the way through the mirror body and held the strap in with SS phillips head machine screws showing from the back side and nuts on the inside. The resto crowd will find this abhorrent, but it looks just fine and works very well.

I know I sound like a broken record, but this is why I will do ANYTHING before I put a reproduction part on my car. I would live with a part in less than stellar original mirror, or restore the original mirror even if it costs twenty times as much as the repro mirror.

One solution may be to get a sharp center punch and put a ding in the strap over the ball. Not sure if you could pull this off without breaking the "welds" on the strap, but that is an option. If the balls mount is supported on the back side all the way to the mirror bracket face you could set it on a towel on the vice (the work bench unless VERY solid will flex and absorb energy you NEED) and punch the top of the metal strap over the ball with a large hammer.

You just sent the email on Monday--today is only Thursday--give them a few days to answer--they may be checking out how to help you.

FWIW__I had two types of mirrors on my 68 and both are now fixed and nice and tight.

One type had two screws holding the strap that held the mirror ball. I put loctite on both and tightened them down. Done.

the second had two rivets holding the straps down. I pounded them both back in and they are tight. Problems solved.

One of those mirror repair posts was mine. I have a Scott Drake convex glass mirror on the right side and broke the glass. A simple email to them and I had a response a couple days later and new convex glass on the way. I have no idea if my left side mirror was an OE part or not but the Drake mirror was as good quality construction and both had screws where the ball strap is.

Aloha All,
Brentmc, I'll give them more time to respond I'm going to Ohio for a training meeting on the 13th and will be back in Hawaii on the 23rd that will be a week again this was not a complaint about Scott Drake or there product or any type of dissatisfaction with customer service. I was just asking if it was possiable and look to see what Team Members thoughts were on this issue.

BPOS, yes I too tried to drill and tap and I also when through :( what can you say. That's why I'm hoping Scott Drake would sell them unassembledso we could have a chance to adjust them from time to time.

On my current ones as stated above a drill hole completely through, on the other mirror not enough of the post to do anything with so I ground them flat and JB Weld two nuts in the same location it looked like problem solved but the strap was bowed a bit in trying to get it into a better shape the dam thing snapped in half  what the hell, what kind of crap steel are they using at this point all you can do is laugh and try to find a better way around this problem.

Thank you all for your response, that's why I love this site we all care about our cars and all are willing to help each other out..

Aloha All, I'm waiting for my flight back to Honolulu, HI from Ohio, it's been a week and not a word from Scott Drake about my question about 69 Camaro Door Mirrors as stated in my first post this was not a complaint about Scott Drake or there product or any type of dissatisfaction with customer service it as just a question. When I get back I will be buying a set and hope they will hold up a bit longer then the ones I have, I would of liked to have them apart so I could tighten them when needed but that looks like something to hard for the vender to do. I still would like in-put from you all if they were like the photo showing the screws that this would be a better set up.

Aloha Bobbie
