I have the gun shaped servos on R66 Corvette using it as a hood lock. They are not great quality, but it has worked now for 5 or 6 years. It doesn't see the load of the door locks, so I am not sure this is a fair evaluation. I see no need for electric locks on a convertible as I experienced the knife to the top thief method to unlock the car.

The actuators are a 5 wire setup and while they basically do the same thing as a 2 wire actuator with locking and unlocking the doors, the 5 wires offer a feature that if one door is locked or unlocked manually it sends an electronic signal to the other actuator to have it do the same thing.

Without looking at the wiring diagram, both doors may lock and unlock with the remote but better systems when both doors are locked and you press the remote unlock button just the driver's door unlocks and then a second push unlocks the other door.

If your car does not have power windows or locks in it now, then the doors and cowl side will have to be drilled to install rubber door grommet tubes. To make the holes the doors may have to come off. Hard telling what you are putting this into as you did not supply that info.

When you do install this system, leave the door panels off to where if something screws up you can get inside the door to work on things and not fight trying to take the door panel off on a closed and locked door.

It might also be a good time to remove the door latch/lock mechanisms and clean them and then after checking for any excessive wear, lube them back up.

We use the Modo Innovations brackets with our alarm/keyless entry systems. The Modo mounting brackets do a great job of keeping the actuator from flexing which can throw things out of alignment causing the actuator to wear quicker and not work as well. We sell three different systems, from a basic keyless system to a system with a LCD display on the remote for notifications. All 3 systems are based on Prestige brand alarms and we pre-wire the system to make it an easier install and include 1st gen specific instructions. By pre-wire we eliminate the wires you won't be needing and make other changes to make an easier install. Let me know if you have any questions, all 3 systems at the link below:
