no i have no idea the specs dont really offer anything other than the dyno sheet cam specs etc. im leaning towards the pan being deeper im just not to keen about adding more oil, it looks to me that it would need another 2 quarts making a toal of 7.
Thus im thinking if a normal pan is 5 qrts is it 5 quarts plus 1 for the filter making 6?
if so than a 6 qrt pan would require 6 qrts plus 1 qrt for the filter for the 7 qrts im guesing which would make the stick work properly but thats an old assumption i have always had over
the years and im not certain if thats right?
I doubt you need 7qts, but you never know. My 7qt moroso oil pan capacity specifically stated that the 7qts was for the pan only and did not include the filter. Usually the oil pan capacities do not include the filter. Put 5 qts in, start it up and let the oil circulate for a little while, then shut it off and check it again. Keep adding till its full. You'll prob end up adding close to 6qts.
Roger "thanks", since i have no idea what oil pan came with the engine its kind of difficult because the crate engine didnt come with a dip stick, the shop purchased the stick from a parts store.
if the stick is short and say its for a 82 or older block versus the 85 and up 1 pieace rear main seal block that these engines manufactures use to build i could very well have to short of a stick and could be filling it up to much. I called blue print and their tech told me it was just a 5 qrt pan, thus for now im goingto do as you state as i doubt that would over full the engine.
Just to add..it takes some time for all top end lube to return to the base.
I suggest after running the engine..you wait till the morning to adjust the level and then use that as a future referance point.
