I suppose I will just torque it down to specs from here and call it good.

 

Something isn't right. Count the splines on both?

 

I have 2 factory steering gears with pitman arms installed. One manual, one power. Look the same as yours. Torque it down and call it a day.

 

It is fine. Just torque it down. The shaft and arm are both tapered.

 

Looks just like mine. Torque that sucker down and move on!

 

The splines on the pitman shaft are tapered. So the arm will be perfectly safe even though you can see some pitman shaft splines between the arm and the gear housing.

The fact that you have several threads from the pitman shaft sticking out past the nut proves that you are in the ballpark.

However, the torque spec is 180 ft-lbs. You most likely will need an extension on your torque wrench to be able to reach that correct figure.

I agree. It's all good to go.

 

Mine looks the same. I did it with the iroc box swap, 3 years and still good.

 

Be sure to torque it with pitman arm rigged up against a piece of 2 X 4 wood between the end of the arm and the frame. That way you don't strain the internals of the steering box.

 

I'll have to check mine when I get home, but recall that the arm can only go on the splined shaft in one position - one of the splines is wider to form a keyway. As long as it's properly aligned, torque away.

 

I'm pretty sure that's not true. The shaft and the arm have 4 wide splines and I believe it will go on all 4 ways but only one is correct!
