What is he asking? Just curious, no plans to purchase. :)

Even with the trim tag and VIN, there is always a possibility of stolen vehicle and parted out. Not likely with all of the rust, but it would be a gamble if you used the VIN on a newly built Dynacorn body. One might want to have the law enforcement agencies run the VIN before spending any money.

Could set a bucket of rust next to it and claim he was selling the whole car.

I am sure there are more rusted out Gen 1 & 2 Camaros in the Midwest than are on the road even though most were crushed. I personally have no problem with using a valid VIN on a new Dynacorn body if the builder / owner is honest and doesn't claim and original RS/SS/Z28 one owner. The key word here is "HONEST" which carries a huge penalty here in country based on "GREED".

R66 that is illegal to do.

In some states it is legal. A Dynacorn body is considered a replacement body part. Just like a replacement truck cab in collision work. We've done it at our old shop, and so have other shop owners I know. This has been discussed many times.

I’m on the fence. If you rebody or replace every body and the firewall and dash over time one piece at a time or all at once via Dyancorn or similar what the real diff bottom line?

It really depends on the state you plan to register it in. Definitely need to run the VIN...some northeast states over 12 years old or so don't even need a title to change hands.
Speaking of that RI just passed this...

Previously Non-Titled Vehicles
Prior to January 1, 2024 Rhode Island did not title vehicles model year 2000 and older.
Effective January 1, 2024 ALL vehicles are now eligible for a title including model years 2000 and older previously registered under the old law.
To obtain a title for a previously untitled vehicle registered in your name, present a valid registration, expired registration, or stamped paid sales tax form and a completed TR2/TR9 and a payment of $52.50 to the Research Office at the Cranston DMV.

Already applied for titles for my 1968 Camaro Z28 and my 1933 Chevy 3 window coupe. I have owned the Camaro for 42 years and never had a title.

This is how my buddy lost his car...N.H
same thing.

I'm with John on this one. I have read and heard all the opposing arguments but having gone through a rather rigorous title journey with my Camaro as well as with a motorcycle I don't think there is anything out there that states "don't build an entire metal shell and put a VIN on it".

When a car is stolen you are technically stealing a model of automobile that is made unique by the VIN - nothing else. So a car's real legitimacy comes from the VIN so if non-stolen and legit, no one is going to gainsay you if every piece of metal on the car is brand new.

When I replaced the upper dash on my car I heard more BS about drilling out the rosettes and transferring the VIN to the new sheet metal than you could shake a stick at. Common sense dictated this had to be done. End of the day, nobody cared - not the DMV, not the State Police or anyone else. My VIN was legit and the sheet metal around it matched the description.

So back to the original post,.....I'm still out on what I think about this. If the legal registered or titled owner of this car realized it's to far gone to repair, and he himself either found a solid donor body, (also officially purchased and owned by him), or purchased a Dynacorn body, and he decided to use it to "repair" the car those items in the ad came from, (meaning use "his" tags on "his" donor car).....I think I'm fine with that, as long as his state deems it legal and doesn't consider it tampering with a VIN,....in this case tampering with 2 VINs if he is using a donor and not a new aftermarket body.

But,....and there's always a big ole BUT,...lol,....just removing the data tag and VIN tag, and cutting out the partial VINs from the fire wall and cowl panels, and selling them along with the accompanying title,....seem just wrong. It's the first step for a would be thief to steal a car, remove all the above, and install the ones he just bought, and either pass it off as a legit car he owns, or worse, sell it to an unsuspecting victim who is buying a stolen car that has been tagged. Does that make the seller of those tags an accessory to the crime?

How many body and other parts can a person change and still call it original or a real xxx model?
