I thought this was a simple thing but now I'm not sure. I have a freshly rebuilt powerglide with a new torque converter in my '67. How much fluid will it take to fill them and what is the best way to go about it. The manual says 2 qts but that seems like too little.

You don't fill the converter, the pump in the tranny will fill the converter. You may want to put a quart or so in there before you install it to better lube it right from the start. Once you start the engine and warm it and the tranny up you will check the fluid level and adjust it accordingly.

I just finished having my powerglide rebuilt. Upon installation I put approx. 1 qt of fluid into the torque converter. Then, after the complete installation, I put 4-5 qts of fluid into the powerglide itself. I started the engine, checking fluid levels via the dipstick. I also, shifted through the gears while the car remained in the garage. In all, the fresh tranny took about 10 qts to fill.
