I am seriously considering the headlight motors and controls from Retro Electro for my 67. I am looking for input from everyone who has this. Price is $620. Anyone have another alternative. My car was not a RS but has the correct headlight hideaway assembly mounted. It operates smoothly now, manually. It has the limit switch mounted and the motor and arms are there. Think I can remove the limit switch and the motor and mount theirs in place. I am not seeing how the arm removes from the motor though. I would like to show someone what I now have but don't know how to post pictures here and not computer literate. I can send pictures or videos via cell though. If anyone would look at what I have now and comment with some help just pm me and I will send info to you. I just what to be right in my choice. Their set-up is all done at front of the car with nothing having to be done inside of the car.

I'm no expert but I have these units installed on my car. The Retro-Electros do not use any of the stock limit switches or relays or diodes. They are ideal for a non-RS car like yours that has the right equipment already, or they are fine for a true RS car, which mine was, but since I re-wired it as well it has no original headlight door wiring in place. Basically the doors get their power from a power source and they get their signal to open or close from the headlight wire itself (electricity present to light the headlight indicates that door should be open, lack of electricity means close). I think that I still have the instructions which I could scan and post if that would help you any.

It's an easy install. My car wasn't a RS originally either. The only issue i had was that the right headlight door motor kept running when it was already fully open. Against the advice of the manufacturer, and being an electrician by trade, i opened the controller and figured out that the dip switches for the right motor weren't in the correct sequence. Basically, the controller uses an amperage based relay that opens once the amperage reaches a specific setting...i.e. when door fully opens or closes against rubber bump stops. Good luck and i highly recommend it.

I have the retro electric on my 67. They far better than anything out there. I have the DSE electric motors on my 69, and the retro motors are significantly better. They are well worth the money, and about as simple to wire as you could ask for.

Hi Brian. They're JDM Astar 3030 led switchbacks. I didn't have a good ground to them during mock up hence the flickering between the two. I have corrected it and they work awesome now. They were a few dollars cheaper and eligible for Prime when I bought them last summer. I replaced most of my lights with led. Front running lights, front and back markers, all interior, license plate, and reverse. I plan on ordering the sequential tail lights after the car is painted. I love them. Below is a crappy video I took after I installed the new American Autowire Classic Update wiring kit.
