What is the correct starter number for my 68 396? I believe that the starter on the engine is a replacement. Here is the numbers on the starter that I have: 1109065 9B 5 3 thanks for the help, Kevin

Kevin you should have a 1107365 starter. The 1109065 was used in:

1978 All Chevrolets w/350 engine auto trans
1979 Passenger, Corvette, Camaro, Nova w/350 and auto trans
1980 Camaro V8 w/ auto trans
1981 Camaro V8 w/auto trans
1978-79 Truck with 350 and 400 engine

Yours is a 1979 starter (February 5th, 1979)

thanks Ed, I could not imagine the car having the original starter after all these years. This car was not a extremely low mile car so most components like the starter, fuel pump, etc. have been replaced with what ever NAPA or whoever sold at the time. thanks for the help, Kevin

Same one (1107365). That starter was used from the mid 60's through the early 70's on a lot of big block Chevrolets.
