Jason, The 2 places you will find the partail vin is under the cowl panel and under the blower motor hole on the firewall ,sometimes you can see the one under the cowl by looking thru the vents on the pass. side, Frank

What does the partial VIN# include, will it verify the VIN# on the dash is correct or will it be basic like the cowl/tim tag info. on the firewall near the master cylinder?

It will start with a 1 and then match the last 8 digits of the VIN on the dash, something like 19N567891, or 19L5678901 depending on which plant it was made in.

 

The one by the blower hole will require the removal of the firewall blower box. Which I think would require the removal of the right fender. Hopefully, the CHP will be satisfied with the one on the top of the cowl.

Do a search, on this site; there have been pics of the top one that will help you identify waht you are looking for. Sometimes, they are obscured by multiple paint jobs.

Not every car has the second VIN stamped by the blower motor.

I know it is true for 1969, as there have been several examples including my car posted here. It's possilble it could cover all 3 years of first gens, but I have seen pics to prove that yet.

Good news,
Just got bck fron the CHP office and the inspector passed the vehivle,I am not sure if he found the secondary VIN# but he did a title search and looke at some sort of cross reference manual and within 10 minutes signed my vehicle off as legit.
